CPAC Audience: Legalize It!
Breitbart ^ | 03-07-2014 | John Sexton

There are things you expect to see at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and there are things you don't. One of the things you probably don't is an audience cheering and applauding arguments for legalizing pot and bemoaning the war on drugs.

A panel titled "Rocky Mountain High" held Thursday afternoon started out as a debate between Mary Katherine Ham of Fox and Hot Air and Christopher Beach a staffer for former Drug Czar William Bennett's radio show. But as the debate wore on it became clear the real disagreement was between Beach and the overwhelming majority of the audience.

The Q&A portion of the panel lasted well over an hour. Person after person stood up to challenge Beach's position on the war on drugs or the dangers of pot. Toward the end of the 100 minutes it had become a kind of joke. After one tough question by someone who clearly favored legalization, Beach turned to Ham and said "I guess that one's for me."

It seems to me that the owner handled it perfectly. A no skateboards sign has a similar effect. Hardly a crime wave.

I’m not avoiding the subject at all. Pot can be bad for you. Cigarettes can be bad for you. Whiskey can be bad for you.

I don’t partake in the first two, I love the third, but I don’t see how it’s the government’s business in any case.

At least the Prohibitionists were honest enough to admit that the Constitution didn’t allow for their pet agenda and got it changed. The drug “warriors” just create a bigger and bigger government to enforce their personal preferences. Which, as I’ve noted, is anathema to conservatism.

It’s anathema to conservatism to think our society’s kids shouldn’t be told...legislatively no less....that pot is OK? Getting high is alright? If it feels good, do it?

Yep, that worked our so damn well on our culture all the way back from the 60’s. Not sure what kind of conservative you are highball. Of course, you are actually a libertarian as your posting illustrates. So maybe when it’s said and done, you really aren’t conservative.

My last post on the subject to you. Something about arguing with a pig...no direct comparison being made BTW.

Teaching children is the job of parents. Why on Earth would you trust the government to do it?

The more you post, the clearer it is. You are not advocating conservatism, but rather a right-leaning type of nanny-state liberalism. Every bit as dangerous and un-Constitutional whether it comes from the Right or the Left.

If you want to give the government all these new powers, then amend the Constitution. Because there’s no way that it can be countenanced under the grand document as it exists today.
