Gee, that makes Cruz' a regular genius, doesn't it? How does a smart guy like that miss this important fact? And, gee, your national sales tax won't do it either, now will it? No one to enforce the filing of sales tax returns, no one to collect the tax, and of course no one to monitor the offshore internet buying that will collapse the economy.
Things can change dramatically when the people demand it. It doesn’t take years, or months or even weeks. Example: the fall of the East German Communists.
Of course getting rid of the Income tax involves passing a constitutional amendment which is an order of magnitude harder than putting a flat tax in place.
Economically the Flat Tax and NRST are equivalent (as per Sowell, M Friedman & Walt Williams.
Cruz is spot on here leverage the IRS scandal to move the ball forward.
And politicians.
Get rid of the income taxes period or reduce them sizably or just collect sales tax. The more expensive the item the more the tax, and not tax certain things.
Just curious, since you seem to know so much about this. How many inventory audits should the retailer endure each year? Who would perform the audits? Who certifies broken or spoiled product that escapes taxation?
Abolish the IRS Ping.
They collect city and state sales tax now, don’t they?
I don’t see where their inventory, spoiled product, etc are getting audited by the city and state.
There's no difference between a 2% and a 29% tax that would encourage the federal government to want to ensure compliance? As for lost product, yes, there are procedures enforced to account for the discrepancies.
It seems you want to find a punching bag for your opposition to the Fair Tax. I’m not playing. Take it out on Boortz.
Comsumption Tax!
It would give all the freedom back to the people.
A flat tax would be ok if all would pay the same percentage.
I like the consumption tax because it leaves lifestyle descisions
in the peoples hands and does not hinder a productive society.
If that happened, Lois slow Learner wouldn’t have been forced to testify and take the 5th time after time, after time, after time, after time, after time, after time, after time, after time.
For some reason, the opposition is rather vitriolic.
I haven’t figured out why.
As I said, an income tax is inherently immoral, a consumption tax would be “more moral”,
and a head tax would actually be biblical.
Abolish all forms of taxation other than a truly flat tax; everyone pays the same amount of tax each year. Everyone.
Go ahead and pass the flat tax WITH the mortgage deduction. We can start to phase it out later.
No good. Within three years, we’ll have a monstrous tax code once again.
We must repeal the Sixteenth Amendment first. That would get rid of the income tax. We should repeal all corporate taxes and capital gains taxes, and all other federal taxes.
Then, the FAIR Tax.
You are right, there's no way to get rid of the IRS without getting rid of the income tax. The vast majority of tax law is about what is and what is not income.
A flat tax is only simple for wage earners. And it won't stay simple for long, as somebody will soon get elected by promising to tweak the income tax to reward their voters.
Corporations would pay tax on the thins they buy like everyone else. Airlines would have fuel taxes like hey have now.
We are talking about a replacement for the income tax.
Right now, only half the population pays a tax on their income.
The federal sales tax would compensate for the one half of Americans who pay an income tax and replace that revenue for the government. and the government would have to learn to live within its means.
What we do about the corporate tax is another issue.
Things would have to be done incrementally.
What’s your plan?
“A simple flat tax.” On what? Income? Here is a government bureaucrat with his handy dandy 20,000 page manual to help you decide what is income.
Businesses will still need to calculate profits by subtracting expenses from revenue. Just like today.
Crap, I gotta file my extension now!
False. You know nothing.
The nrst does have an enforcement mechanism - state sales tax agencies.
Customs and Border agents control imports. Were you unaware?
pfffft ignorance....
