Is this the secret device weve been looking for?Not sure if this is what we've been looking for, but I'll wager that we will be seeing this descriptive again. And again.
We need a gamer person to tell us how many hit points a level 2 lookalike firearm would have, then we can determine its ultimate usefulness. Maybe we can find the manufacturers instruction manual. I'll bet we could even find a parts list... ;-)

It only does Psy damage to weak Cog level enemies.
I think it is a 1d5 die damage modifier, if that.

No mindflayers were harmed in the creation of those stats.
Annoyed, yes.
Harmed, not hardly.

Oh, freep. Do we have Blythgryth under the sink again? I told the kids to stop hiding cookies under there, and now look what’s happened.
Heads will roll.

The blgthrgths give off a warning buzzrattle as you try to disturb their nest.
Exits are to the north, east and west.
What do you do now?

Go north, out the kitchen door to the back yard.
I’m threatened by an enraged cardinal and a nervous mourning dove. What now?

Would you believe that once upon a time, schools had an issue with text adventures?
Then Ultima II came out, and they had an issue with that.
The computer teacher smirked about it, closed the door, and then ran us through text adventures as well as programming one in BASIC.

Hit the deck, your ship is dismasted, sir!
Never go bow on into a blgthrgths nest.
And it all happened only two miles from land.
what?

They were just getting TRS-80s in my high school, my last year (1984). We learned you had to strike the keys very lightly - not like on the manual typewriters in the typing lab! - and how to program very basic BASIC.
No adventures. It was boring.

Best part of this, I’m having an Infocom game moment in my head where the enraged Cardinal is going off about sports, and the nervous mourning dove is upset over the news.
