Would you believe that once upon a time, schools had an issue with text adventures?
Then Ultima II came out, and they had an issue with that.
The computer teacher smirked about it, closed the door, and then ran us through text adventures as well as programming one in BASIC.

They were just getting TRS-80s in my high school, my last year (1984). We learned you had to strike the keys very lightly - not like on the manual typewriters in the typing lab! - and how to program very basic BASIC.

No adventures. It was boring.
