Film star Sean Connery is urging fellow Scots to vote for independence when a referendum is held in September.
The longtime independence advocate says in The Sun on Sunday newspaper that the opportunity to separate from the rest of Britain is too good an opportunity to miss.
He says independence would galvanize the film and creative industries, creating new jobs in Scotland.
Connery no longer lives there and said the decision should be made by the people who choose to live and work in Scotland.
He said a vote for independence would bring renewed focus on Scottish culture, heritage and creative excellence.
His view is not shared by rock star David Bowie, who has urged Scottish voters to remain part of the United Kingdom.

Many English Conservatives would welcome an independent Scotland.
It would remove several Labour MPs from Westminster.

Why should Scotland pay in part for the Royal family? Why should they be on the hook for a failed welfare state and a country overrun by Muzzies?
I don't know how true it is, but I've seen a number of Englishman, when riled up concerning Scotland, claim that Scotland is mostly ghetto welfare leeches. Considering the rivalry, I'd take that with agrain of salt, but it would be interesting to see the number of Scots on the dole versus English.

“Zardoz”?
I never heard of it before today.
Unfortunately, that photo has injured me to the point where I may need to log off and go find an eyewash station...

I favor self-determination for Scotland as I do for Ireland.

My question is, can they support themselves as their own country? Do they count as tourism and film making as their primary sources of income? What do they produce (besides scotch)?

From what I have read England would be the major benefactor if Scotland breaks away. The amount of welfare money poured into Scotland is gigantic.

Thanks, you have answered my question. I forget, how relatively new our country is over here, where a ninety year old Redwood is considered ‘ancient’.

What do they produce (besides scotch)? Wool and haggis, which are equally edible.

Whenever Mr. Connery comes up in conversation I ask the following
What is worse than a Scotsman trying to play a Soviet submarine captain with a half Scottish, half Russian accent? A Scotsman, playing a Spaniard, with a samurai sword, mentoring a Frenchman playing a Scotsman.
