a 90-minute conversation Saturday, U.S. President Barack Obama expressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin "his deep concern over Russia's clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is a breach of international law, including Russia's obligations under the U.N. Charter, and of its 1997 military basing agreement with Ukraine," according to a statement released by the White House.
"...President Obama made clear that Russia's continued violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity would negatively impact Russia's standing in the international community."
According to an account of the conversation released by the Kremlin, Putin stressed "the presence of real dangers to the lives and health of Russians who are currently present in the Ukrainian territory." Putin said that Russia reserves the right to defend its interests and the Russian-speaking people who live there.

What did Obama say? Did he threaten to send over some more gay athletes to Sochi, waving rainbow flags, to intimidate Putin?
Russia will intervene if the threat of violence spreads to its borders.
But that is up to Kiev - to rein in anti-Russian extremists in its regime. And Russia will be watching carefully to see what happens next before pursuing further measures.
For now, diplomats will have to resolve the situation.

Obama is pretending to say something relevant, Putin is pretending to listen
Firstly, I’m sure that’s a flat out lie.
He is absent as usual having others deal with it, he has talked with no one, that’s just the talking point.
Second, Putin would never talk to him. He’s a real man and would take great glee in dismissing obama, having some lower level deputy communicate with the US.
Putin and the rest of the world know Obama will do absolutely nothing.
The lives of Russian citizens and Russian speaking Ukrainians are in danger in a state with no clear lines of authority and no legitimate government.
In any case elections there are a few months away. All Russia is doing is making sure it can respond promptly if the need should arise.
There is time to resolve the situation peacefully and every one now needs to talk. We should hope it succeeds.
I suspect there were about 60 minutes of Putin rolling his eyes and doodling while Hussein blathered on and one like he does at a press conference (including lots of “uh”s “umm”s and “I”s)
