(CNN) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked the upper house of parliament for approval to send Russian troops into Ukraine's Crimea region to normalize the political situation there, the Kremlin said Saturday.
Due to the "extraordinary situation in Ukraine," Putin said, there are threats to the lives of Russian citizens and Russian military personnel based in the southern Crimean region.
It comes on the same day that the new pro-Russian leader of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, asked Putin for help in maintaining peace in the Black Sea peninsula -- where Russia has a major naval base at Sevastopol.

Crimea. 1 march 2014.
Ukraine coastguard base surrounded by Russian military forces.
UN will have little more than “talk” and diplomatic stands opposing what Putins doing.....Putins military being there has secured Ukraine regardless if anyone likes what he’s doing or not. UN leaders know this....they just need to quiet the nations people and make it clear to Putin not to overplay his hand.
Additionally, Putin is going to protect his ports and access to the Mediterraninan....we would do likewise in his place.
Nobody’s going to disrupt the flow of oil...and the UN will pretty much bend some concerning what Putin ultimately requests....he’s in a game of poker now.
UN is useless, why even bother with them.
This is just not acceptable , this is the biggest crisis in world affairs since the invasion of Kuwait. Can you imagine if either Bushes had missed a meeting on such a big subject.
Press talking points for Bushes
Out of touch
Over his head
Made to look foolish
No leading
Deferring to subordinates because of his incompetence.
Bambi is spun as he is so smart he is just updated while he ponders the bigger picture which happens to be MSU vs ILL
Crimea is significant to Russia, always has been in relation to the “waters” and Russian borders.
The question will be if Ukraine splits....that is a possibility.
I liken it to Czechs and Slovaks...perhaps splitting is for the best.
I agree when you, when you are dealing with a member with security council veto power it’s just a bunch talk.
Protecting the empty suit.

Samantha Powers to Russia: “Your actions speak louder than words.”
....”UN is useless, why even bother with them”....
UN is simply a “Inter-national meeting room” for leaders to gather and express their stand.... It has no power as we all know.

Of course the last time the Russkies didn’t show up for a Security Council meeting, we got the Korean War. Don’t think they’ll make that same mistake again.

Presidents Putin and Obama have had a telephone conversation. Putin said that he reserved the right to defend Russian interests in Crimea and east Ukraine. Obama said he was concerned about any plans for Russian intervention in Ukraine.
Putin replied that he was concerned about provocative criminal actions by far rightists sanctioned by the Ukrainian authorities.

MAN this tell a lot about this President can you imagine say Reagan or Bush 43 do something like this MSN media be all those Presidents
It remains to be seen....how it would be divided is another story all together. Still, I tend to think Putin will settle for similar arrangements in the past, if push comes to shove.....but he’ll play it for all he can get no doubt!
OH Yeah that Vlady face right there thanks Dfwgator

Samantha Power, the US ambassador to the UN has called for the immediate deployment of international observers to Crimea.
I think more like Yugoslavia here
Yugoslavia was an even bigger mess, because you had the religion thrown in between Orthodox, Catholics and Muslim.
