Do scientific papers ever seem like unreadable gibberish to you? Well, sometimes they really are.
Some 120 papers published in established scientific journals over the last few years have been found to be frauds, created by nothing more than an automated word generator that puts random, fancy-sounding words together in plausible sentence structures. As a result they have been pulled from the journals that originally published them.

Pulled years later? IOW, the editors don’t edit.
alas poor ozone hole, you passed too soon...
Prof. Irwin Corey, the World’s Foremost Authority, had their number over 40 years ago.
I couldn’t agree more - and it’s rather sad.
But are they peer-reviewed by other word processors?
LOL - that never gets old.
Sassy don’t let Kevmo know
What if its not gibberish, but some kind of code?
That’s horse manure. Anyone who’s been reading up on phonons and how they react in a host metal lattice to large energy inputs (like gamma rays) will know what this paper is about. Plus, Dr. Hagelstein DEMONSTRATED a device that ran for several MONTHS.
I’m wondering how they could tell the difference.
Sure. Just waiting for years now for this LENR bullcrap to prove me wrong by becoming a readily available reality.
I suspect we’ll hear about how “big oil” killed it along with the 100 MPG carburetor.
It’s like Gorebbel’s Warming. We’ll see who gets proven wrong in the long run. Check back with me in two years. Somehow I don’t think we’ll have a single operating LENR device anywhere except in breathless press releases begging for more investment.
Ross complained sullenly about Sokal's crowing, and I believe he had a point. Sokal was an invited outsider in this SCIENCE WARS issue of SOCIAL TEXT, and Ross claimed that he was given extra latitude, as such. That's what you get for trying to be a nice guy! Sokal's writing is actually rather pedestrian compared to the usual jargon he is imitating so assiduously.
Where Sokal goes over the top it is with declarations that science supports the postmodern agenda ... "Third, the postmodern sciences overthrow the static ontological categories and hierarchies characteristic of modernist science."
His discussion of quantum gravity etc. are actually in tune with this, and however weak or foolish one might feel such arguments are, they are far from arbitrary gibberish.
Does this still hold true if its published in “authentic frontier gibberish” ?
(ala Blazing Saddles)
More importantly..... how many times have these gibberish papers been cited in later research by allegedly non gibberish papers ?
“Its almost as if some enemy group has taken over our culture and made it unfashionable to have integrity, obey the rules, obey the law etc.”
You noticing that too? A few years ago I stumbled across a website called “Generational Dynamics”. The proponents of this theory suggest that different generations have different mores/ethics, and the passing of one generation to another is marked by major changes in society. The main blogger points out that the “Silent” generation (survived the Depression and WWII) were marked by honesty and a desire for a safe society. The next generation - boomers - were all abut themselves and basically ate up the surplus the Silents had amassed. The next generation - Xers - are cynical opportunists who hate everyone else and who are committing fraud on a galactic scale, taking down the whole society (banksters, gov’t bureaucrats, politicians, etc.).
Not sure I subscribe to this as a “unified theory” but it makes for interesting reading.
Well, the bible does tell us about such a group. It’s called the demons.
Wow, pranks.
Yep. People seem to have a handle on the concept of angels walking around and influencing things for good, but they don’t seem to understand that the other side is at work too. And the incidence of absolute evil that is going on all over the place seems to be getting increasingly frenetic.
Happily, it is possible for people to fight back.
People need to invest themselves into God again. And get their personal sins straight with Him.
