A.That would be the boundless expansion of the Commerce Clause, combined with present Equal Protection jurisprudence(see Texas earlier today.)Game basically over.
What? Is she afraid a little football won’t be played in “her” state?
Do they have the numbers to override her veto?
No. Ted Cruz should have gotten involved. In war, the army that can muster superior forces at the point of conflict wins, that is how insurgents defeat a modern military. Liberals around the nation attacked Arizona mercilessly while most conservative big shots stayed silent, hence they won, and will always win unless things change.
“Do they have the numbers to override her veto?”
No. The backlash was so fierce that many of those that voted for it are now apologizing, on paper it would not pass again, typical cowardice from RINO’s.
Over 50% of the time, we lose because the people who are supposed to represent us surrender. The left are just doing what they’ve always done. Agitated, bullied, assaulted, smeared, attacked etc. We cannot let the French Republicans get away with surrendering our liberty 24/7 anymore.
Gays will find a Christian business owner to sue so will Brewer, Romney, Mccain the NFL Delta the MLB stand with the Christian business owner sued by gay activists for practicing their religion????
There are not many Republicans ANYWHERE who stay true to conservative beliefs. Jeff McFlake ran as a conservative, and then immediately turned hard left.
As for boycotting Arizona - name another state that has even TRIED to protect Christian (and Muslim and Satanist) business owners from being forced to violate their conscience.
She thinks the populace will be more forgiving of a veto than a cancelled football game. The sad truth is that she may be right.
You are right, the politicians are worthless. But they are what the good people of Arizona decided to raise to high office.
Perhaps.
The fact is, she gave in to pressure, and who cares where the pressure was from?
She is weak willed and lacks conviction.
It is up to the People now.
The people, can do without the likes of Jan Brewer.
same in my state of Texas. If Perry waivers , it does not mean I have to waiver.
She is a spineless coward that puts the “economy” ahead of “morality.” That is a fool’s way...it doesn’t work. Homosexuals should NOT be a “protected” class against discrimination. She is allowing that to proceed.
If Cruz or Palin were wise they would both berate her for this decision. However, I doubt they will. I wonder if Mike Huckabee will rightly reprimand this wayward governor?
Obviously you had no need for such measures in the states prior to this current period. This freedom already exists in the Constitution, but in Arizona, you had the legislature pass it for good measure.
In Kansas, it died in between the legislative bodies and that is its own issue, but in Arizona the legislature took action in response to the tyranny in neighboring New Mexico.
What you then saw was a massive media circus, GOP in full disarray doing idiotic interviews with Anderson Cooper, switching their vote, Mitt Romney weighing in for no reason whatsoever, and now Jan Brewer, who is retiring and has no obligations to anyone but her citiziens, buckles and vetoes the legislation. She actively votes against religious freedom with this veto. Other governors have not had a chance to make that call. Brewer was the first and she blew it.
I love the good people of Arizona, but for crying out loud, this GOP class they have come up with is one of the worst in the country. Juan McShame after how many years still gets sent to the senate, the state legislature for the most part is like the headless chicken caucus not knowing what they’re doing. I’m not sure what’s worse. The rank GOP corruption in Alaska or the startling incompetence in Arizona.
Arizona is not alone of course. Look at the garbage Tennessee sends to the senate.
I am just so sick of this cowardly white-flag cabal who claim to represent us and the constitution, but when the chips are down, they are beyond useless. And Mark Levin says we have to rely on the states to stand up and use their authority to protect our rights. What rights? Jan Brewer doesn’t even know the rights we have. She’s a puke.
Nobody protested the soup nazi.
Coward. She just said she fears the economic blackmail of rage flecked diva’s more than she believes in religious freedom.
Trust me the day is coming when a person of faith will be sued because they could not hold a banner high for same sex marriage. I just kind of hope it will be a Muslim.
Once Arizona legislators who voted for the bill started pleading with the governor to veto it, the battle was lost.
There was no point in Cruz, or any other national conservative getting involved.
Put the blame where it lies -- on the Arizona legislators who didn't plan for the onslaught they should've known were coming and, worse, proved unable to defend their own bill.
They "Akinized" themselves...
I live in AZ., this was a bad bill. Period. Why do we have to legislate every freaking thing. I want less laws, not more. I am glad she vetoed it.
So when bakers are sued, what will be your response?
You ask a good question. Ping me when you get your response. I’m curious what rights will be afforded those who will have to accommodate that which is against their personal convictions.
How do you think this whole story would wash out if two white supremacists wanted to marry and tried to contract a black florist to take care of all their floral needs? Would that florist have the right to decline? Or would gay photographers be forced to do the photography at a Westboro Baptist Church wedding? Just curious. I’ll bet the only ones who will be forced to go against their personal convictions to accommodate a special interest group are straight people of faith.
