What if there was a kind of fairness doctrine applied to public discourse that required the media owners to publish/broadcast special editions for ideological opponents to respond to name-calling and insults?
That would be expensive and so the media owners would likely censor speech.
The Right would have their substantive comments.. liberals and progressives would be virtually omitted from the media.
.. and anyone who dumps the snark would lose.
