Monday night in Kiev, Turchynov, 49, spoke publicly for the first time since taking office as acting president. According to an unofficial translation, he said, "Unprecedented cruelty and brutality of the dictatorial regime did not stop citizens. They selflessly gave their lives to defend their rightsand won....
"Our first task today is to stop the confrontation, to regain control to ensure peace and tranquility, to prevent new victims, local rivalries and lynchings. Another priority is returning to European integration. We must return to the European family. We recognize the importance of relations with the Russian Federation, and are ready for dialogue with the Russian leadership to build relations with this country on a new, truly equitable and good-neighborly basis, which implies recognition of accounting Ukraine's European choice."... ....
The choice of a Baptist pastor as acting president in Ukraine, which has had an Orthodox majority population for centuries, does not come as a huge surprise to Sergey Rakhuba, head of U.S.-based Russian Ministries. For years, he has been in periodic contact with Turchynov....

Great developments in Ukraine!
Awesome! Too bad America will never again follow suit.
Bump
Ping! Thought you all might be interested in the latest developments in Ukraine!
And what will he say if the European Union makes ‘gay rights’ a condition of integration?
As a Baptist I speak from the heart ... there are Baptist and then there are baptist. I hope he is a born again Baptist, washed in the blood of Jesus and true to his calling. If so the Ukraine has a chance.

Very interesting. Thanks! Pray they make it work.
Yes, you are correct. I, too, hope he is a true, committed Christian believer. He does have a reputation for honesty and integrity.
That’s definitely a thumb in the eye of Putin. Russia is trying to outlaw non-Orthdox Chritian denominations.
I don’t know, but they’ve certainly shown a lot of courage in the past months. Much more than our politicians and leadership here. They might amaze all of us! I pray so. I honestly don’t know if they actually seek to be part of the EU, or just have ties to it without being a member nation. I hope they feel strong enough to try to stand on their own.
They’ve certainly shown a lot of strength in the last 6 months.
They booted the commie for a Baptist. Leftists will be unhappy
This so-called “pastor” was the head of ideological department of the Young Communists Union in Dnepropetrovsk back in 1988-90. Nice choice for president of a democratic country....
Bump! Thanks for the ping!
Ukrainian Baptists are known to be very evangelistic. Ukraine sends many missionaries to Russia to evangelize the Russian people. There are many Christian schools within Ukraine. I have met a few of these young missionaries within Russia and I was impressed with their commitment to Jesus Christ.
I plan on being in DC on May 16th.
May we have the “Great American Awakening” Again in 2014.
Again stand in the face of evil and deny them control.
God Bless the U.S. and all freedom lovers worldwide.

Anything to back that up?
He was born in Soviet Union, so everyone was a commie in the 70’s. He’s not one now.
But he speaks Russian, so it might not be. More likely its an olive branch to the Russian population.
