Five years after his "rant heard around the world" spawned what is now known as the Tea Party movement, CNBC's Rick Santelli appeared on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125 and said the energy from 2009 has created a powerful political movement that has already achieved many tangible results while changing the political landscape.
Speaking to host and Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon, Santelli said the Tea Party movement is a big-tent movement that attracts Americans from all walks of life. He said what is appealing about the movement to him is its emphasis on fiscal responsibility. The size, scope, and reach of government is becoming a bigger political issue and platform, and that, he said, is where the Tea Party will have its most lasting impact.
Unlike the Occupy Movement that fizzled, Santelli argued that the Tea Party has "morphed." Even though the movement does not have a convention to elect an official leader or spokesperson, the "energy from '09 has been put to work in a way that has been tangible."
Calling his impassioned rant the "neatest five minutes" of his career, Santelli said the speech's legacy was "a bit surprising to me." He said the country was going through many massive "emotional upheavals" at the time, starting with the financial crisis that he believes started when the government tried to interject itself into the housing market.
He said he was merely venting about issues "that were burning through the country." He was surprised that the Tea Party movement, composed of those who had been especially frustrated with George W. Bush's big-government programs and inspired by Sarah Palin in 2008, formed at the grassroots level and then exploded....

I am Tea Party. I will not be intimidated.
LOL I could never be a liberal. I’m not angry enough for it.
An excellent article. Worthy of everyone’s attention.
Also a Ping to the Uniparty Ping list.
I remember that day when Rick and the traders in the background were all wearing tea bags. A watershed moment.
” - - - “You can’t try to do everything for everybody because you end up doing nothing for anybody,” Santelli said. - - - - “
Yup.
One thing’s for sure, the only thing the GOP is carrying is the democrat agenda.
I think conservatives/TEA Party should have its own conventions months and months before the two parties do, to endorse conservative candidates for office. I mean before primaries even start.
I like that idea.
We could preeminent the Big Whigs.
Get a little fire going for our people, then they would listen.
Not that we need their approval anyway.
Look, if Santelli's 2009 rant was the Shot Heard 'Round The World, then Paul's run was the actual Tea Party itself. The patriots dressed in Indians throwing tea into the harbor.
There were a lot of people who's eyes were opened during Paul's presidential run, and saw that Washington was thoroughly corrupted. Even Fox News and Hannity were attacking Paul and his supporters.
Same reason the primaries should be in order of states that had the largest +R margins in the previous POTUS election go FIRST. 10 states/month for 5 months.
That is a great idea. And then try to get as many delegates that attend the TEA Party convention into both the Republican and Democrat conventions. Of course, getting into the anti-American modern day Democrat convention would be both hard and dangerous.
I’m backing away from politics until I get back down south...the corruption up here in Red Hampshire is overwhelming...a more wretched hive of villainy...ah, you know the rest.
Few people know how the “tea party” got its start, most of all, those who trash the tea party.
Might be able to generate some stupid network PR (MSNBC, CBS, NPR, etc) by making them believe that this convention is a civil war in the Republican party..... don’t let them know that it is actually a complete take over.
I find it amazing that Sowell can be so right on so many issues and think the answer is.... to do nothing and not make waves or make the left angry
Let's make this happen.
You are very right. I make sure to say Taxed Enough Already whenever I start a conversation with someone who doesn’t know what it is. I often have genuine questions coming from people who are confused about it or think it is an extremist movement.
It is amazing how well the Democrats, Republican Establishment and Media have been able to confuse people. If they all worked with us, we could fix this country.
Enlighten us Mid Westerners
I have never been further east than Indiana.
I can only imagine what New Hampshire is like.
