Can someone in a few paragraphs explain what this is about in the Ukraine

At the very beginning, had been a peaceful protest against a president wanting to take the country back to Russia. Number of violent police crackdowns later, hundreds of arrests, some kidnappings and dead people in the forest have failed to pacify the population. Today, capital city is under a lockdown, in the western part of the country they stormed police stations to get weapons.

The whole case is an example of how not to handle a crisis.

Without being a smartass, the answer is no, you have to understand about a thousand years of history to really appreciate the spot Ukraine is in.

Ukraine was planning to align itself with the EU via a trade agreement. Russia came in with an offer that was impossible to refuse. The current president of Ukraine sided with Russia. A portion of his population began protesting his decision.

Oh, and our FR Borscht Brigade parachuted in to tell us it's all about the Saudis, Muslims, and George Soros.
