Look at the olympic tantrums to see these kids in a few years.
These teachers, parents and ‘reporters’ are what is wrong with America/the world today.
I didn’t have any thing to compare it to. Congratulations to your daughter!..............................
Did she ask “Why you be all Actin’ White?”
Being smart is necessary but not sufficient to get straight As.
It is also necessary to work hard.
Of course, if the scale is dumbed down enough, everybody will get straight As!
Public schools are marxist by the way they teach, then reward the ones who play by their rules.
get good grades —> reward: pizza, soda, and dance invite
get bad grades —> reward: soda and dance invite
get horrid grades —> reward: nothing
this is infuriating to the left... and echoes the real world effort and achievement model of capitalism
what they want is:
get good grades —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
get bad grades. —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
get horrid grades —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
don’t show up —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
everyone gets the prize... paid for by someone else... all while praising the local political type
lesson: there is no benefit to pushing to succeed. do nothing, vote for us, and we’ll steal it from others to give to you
Every day we get closer to the world of “Harrison Bergeron”.
For egalitarians, phase one is to indoctrinate youth to have resentment against achievement and to accept the abandonment of rewarding high achievement. Then, comes phase two, which is the use of government coercion to actively punish high ability and efficiency and to reward inability and mediocrity .
I don’t disagree with much on this thread, but I do think that parents, teachers, and others telling a kid that he or she is very intelligent isn’t terribly productive and in the medium and long run hurts the kid.
Doing well in school is important, but there are other important things and swelling a child’s head about any of those things isn’t good.
I’ve never seen or heard of George Washington Carver belittled. Examples?
I’ve excelled at every level of schooling, from grammar school through law school. I learned to answer that question honestly. No, it doesn’t make me smart, it just means I prepared for the test and knew the answers to the questions they asked
No it came OUT of our schools not crept into it.
The whole "everybody is a winner" was birthed and nurtured in the public schools.
I love how the “reporter” corners the kid by stating, not asking “doesn’t that seem wrong”, and the kid responds “I guess”. Shame on that reporter.
The correct response is “no I am not smart because I make good grades I make good grades because I am smart.” This should be followed by a pitying shake of the head.
>Did she ask Why you be all Actin White?
When I taught at a almost all black school I heard that quite a few times - disheartening.
The liberals are spending a lot of taxpayer dollars working to keep the kids stupid. They are expected to be programmed, NOT EDUCATED, in our publik skools.
Guilt. That’s all the marxist have to use to bludgeon the achievers into handing over more in the ever expanding government extortion racket. If achievers learn to stand up to them, to say “I earned this, I did this, I’m proud of my work”, the marxists have nothing.
“I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”
(Atlas Shrugged)
The real problem this woman has is that the students were being rewarded for “acting white”, while other students were not rewarded for choosing ignorance.
“Did she ask Why you be all Actin White?”
I hear that all the time here in NYC. Lots of black and Puerto Rican kids say that all the time in addition to “she think she white.” No matter how times change some people just stay the same.
