He was really more of a small-l libertarian, not a conservative.
If he’s sucking up to Boehner and slamming Cruz and the Tea Party, he can’t even claim that.
I checked it out from the library. It was only very slightly funny.
O’Rourke wrote the hilarious “Foreigners Around the World” piece for National Lampoon back in the 1970s. Such a piece could never be published today. And O’Rourke would probably be jailed for writing it.
Because we have allowed our government to grow without restraint, and become suffocating.
I have been disappointed many times in this way by authors I thought were conservative or even just neutral in their public position. I don’t even recycle the books or sell them: I throw them in the garbage well wrapped so no one else will read them and be poisoned.
Let’s face it, fellows. As we advance up the hill we’re going to pass by a lot of bodies who weren’t up to the task.
Sounds like he’s “Jumped the shark”, unfortunately.
His drinking has obviously taken its toll
VERY disappointing.
Bump for later
Sorry to learn that. Thanks for informing the rest of us.
PJ quit being a conservative many years ago, if he ever was one. I once heard him bashing Limbaugh, and that was it for me. He was funny back in the NatLamp days, but that was 30 years ago. He’s just another smartass Rachel Maddow now.
P.J. has evidently jumped the shark. In the 90’s his books were cutting edge. I caught him on public TV a few years back on some round-table panel and the guy looked completely out of it and maybe fighting alcoholism. Very sad. Clean yourself up P.J.
Wow, what a letdown. Another one goes to the dark side.
If a conservative said the above the MSM would label them a 'hater'...
