What the House GOP needs is discussed at length here. Short version: A new strategy and new leadership.
Speaker John Boehner would be acting selflessly if he announced his intention of passing the gavel before the summer recess to whomever the GOP Conference selects. Such a move would allow for one of those famous D.C. resets, but whether it is Majority Leader Eric Cantor who replaces him or Jeb Hensarling or Tom Price, the change-over would allow a refocused and crucially energized House GOP to campaign with a new plan and a new face heading into the fall elections.
The Speaker is obviously a good man with a great heart, but rallying the GOP inside and outside of the House requires energy and vision as well as a command of the new tools of communication and a willingness to use them.
The Speaker cannot be forced out. There wont be a coup. He has the loyalty of long-serving friends and a good machine for everything except vote counts, and he has worked prodigiously to raise money for members across the country. He has lots and lots of hard-earned IOUs out across the country. No, if he retires from the Speakers chair it will be because he thought it was best.
There wont be a revolution. But a graceful announcement and exit would serve the country he loves and the party that has helped him to achieve remarkable things for the son of a barkeep.

One can only hope, but I don’t see it happening.
So what’s going on?
Hewitt had Joe Scarborough on the a love-fest yesterday to start off his show.
They were marching in lock step and one of their main topics was that Boehner will not be speaker in the next Congress.
These two obviously are part of a move to get him out.
They also seem not to want Cantor.
Hewitt and Scarborough are not conservatives in our sense of it.
Hewitt is GOPe vanguard. Scarborough is openly hostile to conservatives.
Now they turn on a dime and are against Boehner.
What gives?
Not until he opens our Southern border.
Maybe after he rolls off his back & stops peeing himself.
Not willingly. And admit he's a PUTZ? Hell no.
Yes.
This is not what it might seem.
In fact, hearing Hewitt and Scarborough clamor for Boehner to be gone made me think perhaps he is not so bad.
If Scarborough and Hewitt are trying to get rid of him, I’d rather keep him than any of their proposed replacements.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! *snort* ! ! ! ! *giggle.
Give me a break!
If he was a leader in the military and “lead” in this fashion in combat, he would be FRAGGED!
If not fragged, at the very least, he would be arrested for aiding and abetting the enemy!
Everyone of the following shouldn’t be voted out of office; they should be RAN out of office on a rail! Bonehead, John Wayne McCornyn, Linda Grahamnesty, Can’tor, John McQueeg! I am sure there are MANY more, but these would be a DAMN good start! Snakes and snails have more backbone than these “leaders!”
Fat chance.
And don't let Cantor get his hands on it, either. Support Dave Brat to oust Eric Cantor in VA-7
Also, press your Representative to NOT support Cantor for Speaker.
Don’t go away mad John, just go away!
Here it is - with this vote, the Tea Party House & Senate members have declared their independence from the GOPe.
In the House, the conservatives refused to give even one unified conservative idea for Boehner and the GOPe to bargain with, water down or claim credit. Tea Party House members remain ticked off at Boehner & Ryan for the budget deals they made last fall and the strategies employed to continue setting up Republicans as the bad guys in multiple budget/debt ceiling debates (and votes) with Obama & the Democrats. Their messages to Boehner are: "You set up this structure, Bonehead, you wear it!" and "This is your last term as Speaker!" Boehner was forced to allow a clean bill and vote for it because it was the least awful option he had.
Over in the Senate, Cruz smoked McConnell & Cornyn with the same messages. With the cloture demand, Cruz forced Cornyn to whip GOPe votes for a Democrat victory. When Cornyn's whip attempt fell short, Cruz forced McConnell & Cornyn to vote for cloture as most of the spineless GOPe Senate caucus were not willing to vote for cloture UNLESS McConnell & Cornyn did so first. That's how bad things are for McConnell - even his closest establishment "friends and colleagues" in the Senate are unwilling to jump on his grenades. The cherry on top for Cruz is that his outmaneuvering of the GOPe provides ample fodder for McConnell's & Cornyn's conservative primary opponents.
This is a brilliant strategic move for the House & Senate Tea Party caucus. It's finally dawned on them that the GOPe are not their friends.
Cruz & Co. intend to quietly keep their powder dry until AFTER the November elections. Until then, the Tea Party caucus will not speak ill of the GOPe in general, but will directly and indirectly target the GOPe leaders who MIGHT be defeated in primaries.
Good luck Boehner, McConnell & Cornyn in your attempts to falsely pad your "conservative" credentials before November!
As for Boehner, please hang him high. He has a special pedestal in USG takeover of everything.
