Aging America heading for disaster

To really understand what’s going on with the American economy, don’t look at the headlines. Don’t look at the unemployment rate or the trade balance or the deficit. Don’t even look at what’s happening today at all: Look at what happened 46 years ago.

And what happened then? Fewer Americas were being born, points out Harry S. Dent Jr. in “The Demographic Cliff: How to Survive and Prosper During the Great Deflation of 2014-2019”

They told us the earth was overpopulated and we needed to have fewer children. I remember that being pounded into our heads.

And that we had a labor shortage so we need to open the border.

Why has this never been a problem for previous civilizations? If yo uthink America is bad... wait until you see China in about 20-30 years.

Baloney. Nothing but an attempt to absolve idiot politicians and the idiot voters who vote for them.

Reaganomics worked. Bushonomics and Obamanomics didn’t.

And there is no way we’re going to have deflation, except in the very, very short term. The amount of worthless fiat money being pumped out is absolutely mind-boggling. Only the wretched economy is keeping the velocity of money down.

The smart people listened and the stupid people bred more stupid people.

That was the worst possible outcome.

I blame the boomers for squandering a huge opportunity to take care of themselves financially and to leave behind something better for later generations.

Anyone going into the workforce in 1980 enjoyed the biggest economic boom in the history of the world.

And what do many boomers have to show for it?

Not only will later generations have to pay for their care through payroll taxes (which given the 20+year economic boom should be unnecessary), they'll also have to pay for all that debt the boomers created.

Absolute Trash.

Let me make it very simple. The US has been running a HUGE ponzi/pyramid scheme for longer than most of us have been alive. The money the government took from Boomers is all gone. Spent. But as long as new money keeps pouring in from the bottom of the pyramid, everything is AWESOME.

So what happens when the money coming in from the new workers is not enough to keep supporting the ever increasing, enormous demands? That's right! Game Over. And the very very top of the pyramid people run off to private islands surrounded by bodyguards.

The entire scam is 100% dependent on infinite growth forever. It's probably not gonna make it 5 more years? What's your guess?

They told us the earth was overpopulated and we needed to have fewer children. I remember that being pounded into our heads.

Wrong explanation.

Real answer?

Abortion

Birth control

Playboy philosophy that sex is purely for recreation and not procreation

High taxes leading to need for two income families

High college tuition reducing the ability to afford more children.

Denigrating stay at home mothers while lauding the professional woman

Sex role reversals

All of the above brought to you by political correctness.

But do not fear. The two Bushes, Clinton, and Obama have a solution. Illegals from south America and Muslims.

Muslims are a solution as they have plural marriages and education is not an issue - especially for women.

Fell better? I don’t either.

Born in the late 50’s, a teenager during Carter’s dreadful term. No jobs, nothing. Survived the 80’s and put off marrage. Just worked. During that time the Democrats increase SS payroll taxes and income taxes all the while increasing SS Benefits for the poor Seniors. COLAs every year. New disability benefits increased. All for the Seniors and poor.

Still unmarried and working, working and working some more along came Clinton. More taxes, more benefits for the Seniors and poor. Suddenly working Boomers were a cash cow.

Lets kick the can down the road to the late 2000’s. Well the can has hit a huge wall and all of the sudden it’s my fault. BTW, the “folks” making these rules were not Boomers, but the beloved Greatest Generation.

Why has this never been a problem for previous civilizations? If yo uthink America is bad... wait until you see China in about 20-30 years.

This has been a problem before. Look at the fall of the Roman Empire, for example.

From The Story of Civilization by Will Durant (1946):

...“Prostitution flourished. Homosexualism was stimulated by contact with Greece and Asia; many rich men paid a talent ($3,600) for a male favorite; Cato complained that a pretty boy cost more than a farm. But women did not yield the field to these Greek and Syrian invaders. They took eagerly to all those supports of beauty that wealth now put within their reach. Cosmetics became a necessity, and caustic soap imported from Gaul tinged graying hair into auburn locks.

“Women won the free administration of their dowries, divorced their husbands or occasionally poisoned them, and doubted the wisdom of bearing children in an age of urban congestion and imperialistic wars. Already by 160 Cato and Polybius had noted a decline of population and the inability of the state to raise such armies as had risen to meet Hannibal. The new generation, having inherited world mastery, had not time or inclination to defend it; that readiness for war which had characterized the Roman landowner disappeared now that ownership was being concentrated in a few families and a proletariat without stake in the country filled the slums of Rome. Men became brave by proxy; they crowded the amphitheater to see bloody games and hired gladiators to fight before them at their banquets.” (Will Durrant, The Story of Civilization, Caesar and Christ, pp. 89–90)

[...]

“What had caused this fall in population? Above all, family limitation. Practiced first by the educated classes, it had not seeped down to a proletariat named for its fertility; by a.d. 100 it had reached the agricultural classes. … Though branded as a crime, infanticide flourished as poverty grew. Sexual excesses may have reduced human fertility; the avoidance or deferment of marriage had a like effect, and the making of eunuchs increased as Oriental customs flowed in to the West. …

“The rapidly breeding Germans could not understand the classic culture, did not accept it, did not transmit it; the rapidly breeding Orientals were mostly of a mind to destroy that culture; the Romans, possessing it, sacrificed it to the comforts of sterility. Rome was conquered not by barbarian invasion from without, but by barbarian multiplication within.

“Moral decay contributed to the dissolution. … Men had now, in the middle and upper classes, the means to yield to temptation, and only expediency to restrain them. Urban congestion multiplied contacts and frustrated surveillance; immigration brought together a hundred cultures whose differences rubbed themselves out into indifference. Moral and esthetic standards were lowered by the magnetism of the mass; and sex ran riot in freedom while political liberty decayed.” (Durant, pp. 666–67.)
