Asian immigrants surpass Hispanics as largest wave in America (2012)

Asians have taken over Hispanics as the largest wave of new immigrants to the United States, according to a report released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center.

According to CNN, the report showed that in 2010, 36 percent of new immigrants to America were Asians, compared to 31 percent who were Hispanic. A decade ago, those numbers were 19 percent Asians and 59 percent Hispanics.

The numbers have pushed the population of individuals of Asian descent to a record 18.2 million, also making Asians the fastest-growing racial group in the country, according to The New York Times.

According to the study, Asian immigration has increased, but the gap widened more because of the sharp decline in Hispanic immigration.

Of illegal immigrants in the US, 11 percent are Asian while 75 percent are Hispanic, according to government data and the report's own polling, said Reuters.

Pew also suggested that more Mexicans, the largest group of immigrants currently in America, may be leaving the US than arriving, due to the poor job market, a rise in deportation and a decline in Mexico's birthrate, said The Washington Post.

The 18 million Asians in the US make up 6 percent of the country's population and more than eight out of ten come from China, the Philippines, India, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan, said The Post. Hispanics in America number 52 million, or 17 percent of the population.

"A century ago, most Asian-Americans were low-skilled, low-wage laborers crowded into ethnic enclaves and targets of official discrimination," said the study, according to The Times. "Today they are the most likely of any major racial or ethnic group in America to live in mixed neighborhoods and to marry across racial lines."

The report comes at a time when immigration is once again at the forefront of the political landscape with President Barack Obama announcing that some children who were brought to America as illegal immigrants could be spared from deportation.

Too bad this “Immigrant” chose to break our laws.

Too bad this man, refuses to be a Man and own up to what he did and correct the problem/his criminal action and deport himself.

I wonder how much free stuff he stole from the American Taxpayer by illegally accessing Social Services?

He’s nothing but an irresponsible, immoral thief who should be ashamed of his actions, but instead, we’re supposed to feel sorry for him.

I don’t.

Deport him!

Chinese go everywhere and succeed (often in the face of officially sanctioned discrimination, such as in Malaysia). They are among the most economically successful minorities in disparate cultures.

I find it funny that Republicans are all on board for H1B visas that hurt middle class suburban voters they are chasing.

It also implies they don’t want poor Hispanic immigrants. They only want Asians on H1B visas.

The H1B visa hurts there message with white and Hispanic voters.

Only Jeff Sessions and Steve King opposed H1B visa increase.

Learn to read; better yet, to comprehend.

Motor-mouthing is for perennial idiots. Don’t be one.

Have the good sense to take your own advice.

Note that I didn’t post to you.

Take that as a hint.

“That fact has been pointed out to me and I just can’t understand why Asians who typically work very hard and have strong Pro Family Values would vote Democratic.”

True.

The first generation is generally apolitical. The kids go to university so they learn to be liberal or act like it.

Also, they do come from a different civilization that is non-Christian, filled with superstition, does not have a reverence for life and is not individualistic.

For example, quite modern sophisticated people are literally scared of ghosts and burn paper money to appease them and won’t move in or move out of a house in ghost month.

You’re on a public forum. If a poster didn’t want his/her/its comment responded to by other than the person it was initially addressed to, the poster would use the private messaging feature, unless the said poster has the affliction of the condition mentioned in my prior post.

Or perform exorcisms and sprinkle "holy water" to appease / scare away demons. Or partake in a bread-and-wine ritual that is believed to be actual flesh and blood of a deity, or...

Very true. But I was speaking only to common usage in Britain. In Britain common usage is to call Syria to northern India Asian and anything east of that as East Asian.

It’s interesting to know that in America we once classified Indians as Caucasians. I bet that shocked them.

I’m intimately familiar with the usage. More accurately, not ‘East Asian’, but rather, ‘Orientals’. Unless PC took over the latter term.

I live in the heart of Microsoft country, east of Seattle.

We have the highest concentration of H1B Asian Indian software engineers in the world.

So what happens?

The white computer geeks at the University of Washington treat Bill Gates like a rock star!

And politically?

My district has elected one “Republican” in the last two elections.

He's a state senator who co-sponsored our gay marriage law!

I think the situation is hopeless.

I have no idea why I keep fighting on this issue, but I just can't stop myself.

If you mean the Catholic vote, we know what it is and always has been, it has gone republican about five times total.
