As far as I’m concerned, your DNA is your signature.
By donating sperm, you agree to be a father, with all the ethics, rights, expenses and responsibilities that come with having a child.
On a similar note, I have a HUGE problem with men who are forced to pay money for children that they didn’t father.
Tell me that after you are the one that got ripped off!!!Lawyers have an inappropriate amount of power...some use it ethically some don’t...in most cases if they don’t you are just simply screwed. And your solution to your quandary ....”Hire another lawyer”!!!!
Shakespeare scholar you are not.
It is a wise father that knows his own child.
The Merchant of Venice (2.2.73)
He got screwed!
I’m the most conservative poster you will find.
Bottom line. If you use your wiener to make a kid, you are responsible for that kid. However, if you enter into a legally binding contract that says otherwise, and that otherwise involves another legally responsible adult taking responsibility for that kid, then so be it.
The most important person in the picture is the kid.
THIS!
The 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade should remind us of another very destructive ruling, by the same court, in the same term, that voided the bastardy laws of all 50 states. In Gomez v. Perez, the court ruled that unmarried fathers were equally liable for child support.
At one stroke, the court removed the man's most valuable marital promise - that he would care for all children born of his wife's body during their marriage - and therby created a situation where pledging your troth before God and jerking off into a turkey baster would have the same social value.
And just look at what has happened since then...
Eeewww. Never in a hundred, never in thousand, never in million years would I have fornicated with the “woman” in question.
This child didn't just have a claim on paternal money. He has a right to his whole patrimony: to paternal acceptance, guidance, inclusion in the kinship network on the father's side, which means grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, possibly half-siblings; to a normal sense of identity based on the unfolding gifts of body and mind which he got genetically, but which are best understood and best developed by paternal interaction.
That's the big thing.
So, maybe Uncle Sperm was trying to do a "good thing." Is he going to step up and do the right thing? Is Miz Proud Lesbian even going to let him claim visitation?
Fifty years ago, this stuff was only found in science fiction novels.
Never claimed to be!!
Poor kid.
Then you probably cannot explain your comment #21, either.
Well said.
I see absolutely no reason to explain anything to you!!
In FL we’re sorta lucky in that the family court regulations, forms and advice are online. Many of the documents and filings are simple and judges are accostomed to people filing pro-bono I think it’s called. IMO this is in large part due to the pervasive corruption and greed within the family law industry in this state.
It’s well known that opposing lawyers will collude to draw out cases and exact as much as possible from their clients. It is not uncommon for wealthy couple to spend several years and millions in legal fees for their separation. Many couples are finally wising up to this and make agreements to do their own filings.
Most of the judgments are based on state statute so unless special circumstances exist many litigants are realizing that preserving their wealth is in their best interests. They more they feed the lawyers the more rapacious their treatment.
The man needs to be dignified by reinforcing both the rights and the obligations of natural fatherhood. He needs to co-parent his child under some system of visitation or co-custody. He looks old enough for us to expect some maturity, and -— if he lives up to the job description — to honor him for it.
Unfortunately most people learn this after being fleeced!!
