“Picture yourself here. You carry a pistol for self protection... he was afraid of a younger and stronger man getting his hand on him before he could deploy his legal, and rational, means of self defense”.

Picture yourself here. You decided to verbally confront a much younger and stronger man at a movie instead of moving your seat. The scenario escalates and someone throws popcorn at you. You decide at this point the stronger, younger person may get the upper hand so you shoot. Your bullet is six inches off the target and you shoot the ten year old in front of the younger, stronger man. (or the older lady, or the teenager or whomever). ***My point here is this was a bad shoot no matter what. He didn’t know for sure if he was going to hit his target or the person in front, or next to the man. He acted with complete disregard to the people in the entire movie house. Thank goodness the gun jammed... or we could be hearing about more coffins and grieving families over texting.

we could be hearing about more coffins and grieving families over texting.

This wasn't about texting. It was about Butthead vs. Butthead. Plain and simple.

"You decided to verbally confront a much younger and stronger man at a movie instead of moving your seat."

Is this really what we've devolved to as a society? No one can say anything to someone breaking the rules and should just move away if it bothers us like we are sheep? Otherwise we should expect to be attacked if we have the temerity to actually say something to someone doing something wrong?

My point here is this was a bad shoot no matter what.

I disagree, there are not enough facts to say either way.

He didn’t know for sure if he was going to hit his target or the person in front, or next to the man.

That's easy to say but in fact he did his target. If nothing else his judgement was sound there
.

Thank goodness the gun jammed... or we could be hearing about more coffins and grieving families over texting.

This is simply an emotional appeal. Witnesses don't suggest he even tried to shoot again or even clear the jam.
