What I don’t understand is why some “conservatives” (note the quotes) are putting significant efforts into defeating a Republican, instead of focusing on defeating the Democrats.

Do you not understand that Cornyn is a back stabbing traitor of the first order, and only pretends to be a Republican?

That man has worked tirelessly in the U.S. Senate to defeat the will of the Tea Party and has done next to nothing to back up or support the junior Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz. He's a despicable quisling who is fully in league with the enemies of the republic.
