A 43-year-old father was shot dead by a retired cop in a Florida cinema after a row about him texting his three-year-old daughter as they waited for the movie to start, witnesses said.
Chad Oulson was shot in front of his wife and horrified movie-goers during an argument with 71-year-old Curtis Reeves.
The victim's wife, Nicole, was injured in the shooting after holding her hands out to try to shield Mr Oulson during the confrontation at a movie theater near Tampa on Monday.
After Reeves fired at his chest the victim was heard saying: 'I can't believe I got shot', according to Fox News.
Reeves, who is facing life in prison if found guilty, has been charged with second-degree murder. During a hearing on Tuesday he appeared via video link, wearing a green suicide smock - a fire resistant outfit that can't be torn or turned into a noose.
The judge ruled he should be held without bond because of the severity of the charges, but the no bond ruling can't be confirmed until a live hearing with Reeves.

The guy who tells you to put your cellphone away.
A liberal named Bobcat Goldthwait made a movie starring liberals that was about just that premise.
Of course the victims in that film (besides a spoiled brat reality star, people in a movie theater on cellphones, and members of a singing competition) were a Glen Beck stand-in, a Fred Phelps stand-in, and tea party types.
God Bless America - Official Trailer [HD]
The movie sucks as did those involved.
Spitting on someone would also be considered assault even though it too is unlikely to “maim or kill”.
It would be considered provocation though.
And that is not controversial at all, I bet
Now turn it around and the film would likely be the first one banned by Congress
What effects do anabolic steroids have on behavior?
... when used in high doses, increase irritability and aggression. Some steroid abusers report that they have committed aggressive acts, such as physical fighting or armed robbery, theft, vandalism, or burglary.
It DOES light up the screen and it does make click-click-click-click-clickty-click-click-click sounds. Especially if you are seating immediately behind someone.
Mine doesn’t.
The movie hadn’t started yet, the guy was checking on his child. The shooter was a whack job and I can’t believe anyone would defend him.
He killed a man because he was annoyed, he could have just changed seats. I hope they hang him as an example.
As bad as the cellphones are in movie theaters, they are even worse in concerts (where everyone who has one feels compelled to hold it up and wave it in the air taking shaky video of the same song that 20 people will instantly post to the youtube).
It’d be nice to see a concert and be “in the moment” for once, instead (even at general admission shows) those in the front rows rows are looking down and live blogging it. Worse is when they have absolutely no interest in the open band(s) and use that time at the front of the stage to surf facebook instead. Killing the energy. Distracting lights.
Then again, they can’t do without their electronic pacifiers while driving cars either.
I think this thread shows some LEO and retired LEO that are afraid for their historic unaccountable right to carry. They don’t want to be like the rest of us and this case might bring them back to the level of — just a citizen, god forbid.
Pay for a permit and submit to invasive scrutiny like the sheeple do in many states.
Just like George Zimmerman?
I was thinking the same thing. Sad for everyone, especially the little girl who has lost her daddy.
I'd give management a choice, my business or his. I'd take the refund but never return if he sided with the rude patrons.
Put up or shut up on your "evidence" that he walked outside to his car.
I haven’t been to a movie the last couple of years but even so I hear they still ask patrons to turn their cell phone off in the theater in the announcements.
I thought of this movie when the Colorado movie theater shooting happened because frankly there aren’t many shootings in movie theaters (at least that aren’t gang/drug dealer related).
If you're still licking the boots of a murderer, then you have a sociopathic disorder.
I have carried a firearm for a living while involved in Law Enforcement. The reality that you may come in contact with someone who wants to "even a score" are not confined to just while you are on duty or before they retire.
And people who want to "even the score" with you, do they normally get their "revenge" by texting without your permission until you shoot them?
He may be a little cranky and not like people breaking the rules but that does not make him a killer.
Shooting a man in his chest through his wife's hand for texting before the movie started makes him a killer. Your support of him makes you a wannabe.
Must be rough, reaching for your manhood and finding 9mm is all you've got.
they were both annoying each other but one was breaking theater rules. At least the theaters I have attended.
I agree
