So if you use a bank debit card that is also labeled visa (I have one) as if its a credit card (you tell them 'credit') you can contest charges like its so easy to do with a credit card?
The money's not immediately drawn out of the bank account?
I love my chase MC so much, I get the points awards (redeemed in cash) and I even successfully contest charges I made over service issues, they call that a benefit. They love me too. I pay the entire balance each month.
I think, (but not completely sure) the protections on Credit versus Debit are likely the same. But I believe the major difference is while sometimes both may take a few months to clear up, but eventually get resolved, the Debit starts with money removed from your account. The Credit starts with money they claim you owe, but have not yet paid.
Not taking any ones word I called my bank to ask them about this and they confirmed that my Visa bank debt card has similar protections as you said,
... and apparently the Obama-Pelosi credit card reform bill forbids the merchant from charging those nasty debit card service fees.(HAHAHA) anymore
My Chase is still better. Free rental auto insurance too.
An issue near and dear to my heart.
My credit card info was stolen over the holidays. USBank was fantastic and responsive, as were the vendors scammed.
Here’s the dirty little secret of ID theft: the cops don’t care and will do little, if anything, to help you. I provided them with a ton of info that the victimized vendors gave me, and they still won’t pass it along to the DA for prosecution.
Guess I should have sent the info along with a box of Krispy Kremes.
I don’t trust debit card security at all - I just use mine as an ATM card at my local branch.
No they don't, they would prefer you carry a balance so they can charge you interest every month in addition to the 3-5% they charge the merchants for everything you buy.
I never tell anyone it’s a CC, it’s not, it’s a debit card.
The money is withdrawn from my account in minutes of using it at most merchants, although some take several days. The immediate withdrawal is a benefit in my eyes. I changed banks to get that feature.
If I want delayed withdrawal (payment really) I use a CC.
If there is a discrepancy, I can contest it the same way I contest a CC mistake.
