I think, (but not completely sure) the protections on Credit versus Debit are likely the same. But I believe the major difference is while sometimes both may take a few months to clear up, but eventually get resolved, the Debit starts with money removed from your account. The Credit starts with money they claim you owe, but have not yet paid.

But yes the real credit card is still much superior.
You dont have to pay the charges once you contest them, unless they can prove that you legally have to: that you authorized it and they provided the service or product, and that its not a rip off (like a broken product or the wrong product) .
