All kinds of people and organizations, from media to scientists, have been pushing back against the idea, popular among the Rush Limbaugh set, that recent bitingly cold weather disproves global warming. Rather, they say, global warming actually causes this extreme weather, by making the polar air mass more unstable. That's now the official line of the White House, which is embarking on a bit of a media blitz to deny the notion that one cold snap means climate change is a lie. In a video released Wednesday, President Obama's science and technology advisor, Dr. John Holdren, made the two-minute case.
"The fact is that no single weather episode can either prove or disprove global climate change. Climate is the pattern of weather that we observe geographically, and over the seasons, and it's described in terms of averages, variations, and probabilities," Holdren soberly explained. To further make the point, according to BuzzFeed, the White House plans to dedicate one of its "We the Geeks" sessions to the polar vortex, throwing a team of scientists and experts at the issue, presumably to offer well-reasoned, scientific explanations.
But well-reasoned scientific explanations can only do so much in the face of conspiracy theories and insinuation. "In the middle of a hoax, they’re perpetrating a hoax, but they’re relying on their total dominance of the media to lie to you each and every day about climate change and global warming," Limbaugh said on Monday. Beat that, science.

The Global Warming scare is just another scam/scheme like Obamacare, dreamed up as an issue to justify increased taxes to fund more Big Gov and more wealth redistribution.

An easy way to avoid confusion and embarrassment:
Just remember these two rules about Global Warming:
1 - Record setting cold, snow or ice does not disprove the existence of Global Warming. They are just anecdotal evidence of a temporary condition and cannot be regarded as valid indicators.
2 - Record setting warm temperatures, drought, rain, storms, melting ice, or other unusual conditions are undeniable empirical evidence that man caused Global Warming is destroying the planet, and maybe even the entire galaxy.

I’m going to confess I’m lukewarm on this. Part of my issue is that science works to prove its explanations wrong. That is something I never see mentioned - or have I missed it?
i will be looking forward to the white house explanation regarding how super-size SUV’s and other acts of repulicans have altered the worlds and sun’s axis to cause the current polar vortex.
It’s utterly laughable to see these guys NOW making the point that climate is not the same as weather after years of using every tornado, hurricane, heat wave, flood, and forest fire as PROOF that “global warming” is a REAL BIG PROBLEM threatening all human life on Earth. These people, Holdren chief among them, are dishonest worms.

You’re absolutely right.
In fact, scientists should always be skeptical. They should especially be skeptical of their own theories, and work hard to always ensure the data leads to impeccable results.
That the left-wing community of so-called scientist/political agitators want to label anyone who doesn’t agree (that global warming is due to human industrialization) a denier—like they are Nazi sympathizers, is down right despicable and has no merit in science.

When a scientist only gets funded for saying global warming is real he has no incentive to actually conduct real science
