Emails released today revealed two political bombshells: Gov. Chris Christie's office had advance knowledge of the traffic nightmare at the George Washington Bridge that crippled Fort Lee in September. And his top officials at the Port Authority did indeed close the lanes as a form of retribution against the town's mayor.
"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Christie's deputy chief of staff wrote to David Wildstein, a top Christie appointee at the Port Authority. Wildstein answered, "Got it."
Which confirms what critics have suspected all along: This was an outrageous misuse of public resources, a reckless endangerment of the public, and apparently a massive lie.
But by whom?
The official line from Christie's lieutenants at the Port Authority has been that this was all part of a secret "traffic study"; that they were simply curious to see what sort of mayhem would ensue if two of Fort Lee's three access lanes to the bridge were cut off, suddenly and unannounced...
Still, Christie bears responsibility either way. If it turns out he did know, he is obviously lying and unfit for office -- let alone a 2016 presidential run.
And even if he did not, his officials are liars. If Christie can't control them, how can we trust him as a potential future leader of our country?...
"Is it wrong that I'm smiling?" an unidentified text message to Wildstein reads, in response to news that buses of children are trapped in traffic on the first day of the school year.
"No," Wildstein wrote back.

Such are the different standards for Republicans. Good. I like having higher standards for my politicians.
As I wrote in the Star Ledger comments page.
First of all, let me say that if Chris Christie had fore knowledge of any plan to screw with commuters for political reasons, I support removing him from office, or at least will celebrate the death of his presidential ambitions.
That said, seeing the Star Ledger EB and staff, plus its leftwing readership screaming for investigation and removal is both funny and pathetic. Were talking about lane closures here!
Bob Torricelli was a round-the-clock mobster, milking the public treasuries for decades while the Star Ledger pathetically pretended not to notice. Every single reporter and editor at the SL knew that McGreevey appointed his thoroughly unqualified foreign boytoy as Homeland Security head, but they all pretended to be shocked when McGreevey tossed out his gay American speech in a successful attempt to derail a federal corruption investigation. Jon Corzine still jets around the globe despite stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from his clients.
And then theres the sad history of the (twice-endorsed by the SL) Obama Administration. Hundreds of Mexicans killed by Obama-supplied guns to drug cartels. Its a non-story to the SL. The FBI targeting journalists unfriendly to the Administration. The SL shrugs. The IRS specifically targeting conservative organizations, asking unconstitutional questions about their donor lists and even how they pray, before denying them exempt status on political grounds. Token coverage from the SL, trumpeting the disingenuous smoke screens thrown up by the Administration and its legion of protectors. Four dead in Benghazi, NSA intercepted phone calls, spying on foreign leaders and congress. All of little concern to the Star Ledger and its leftwing hacks.
But somebody in the Christie Administration closed some traffic lanes! Now, finally, the SL is on the case. What, besides party affiliation, has changed.
I say bring it on, get justice for those inconvenienced by the jerks who snarled up Fort Lee one morning. Then, with that out of the way, maybe the SL will find some time to try to figure out why nobody has been held responsible for three hundred dead innocents in Mexico. And well go from there.
Just another hack pol not interested in keeping the gov't out of the way for regular peeps to do their own thing.
I am surprised that the media did not sit on this story until AFTER the liberals got the GOP nomination for Christie.
Denying him the presidency is not enough for some.
Well, I’m sure the communist entertainment/news media propaganda complex will report just as fervently on the same crap done daily by the regime in the White Hut.
Oh, wait....
Anyway, I’m not a fan of Christie, but because he has the “R” next to his name he’s still going to be played the fool by the two-faced commies in the propaganda business.
"If you like your health care plan, you can keep it." "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor."
Worst headline ever. Like we ever could have guessed that in an article about presidential ambition, “GWB” referred to the George Washington bridge, and not George W Bush.
Outstanding response. With a few edits, that could apply to every “msm” outlet there is.
Should be cut and pasted and edited, forwarded to the hypocrites everywhere
Excellent letter.
It's a NJ paper, and around here GWB (the bridge) has been called that since before GWB (the president) was even born.
Sir;
That is an excellent letter. I would agree 110% but that is impossible, so I agree 100%.
If it gets rid of that anti-gun lard hog it was worth it!
Were the lanes closed when there were any protests by the tea parties or other right wing groups going on? Something is stirring my memory banks but I can’t remember what it is....
It’s also possible that this was orchestrated to make sure he isn’t a candidate.
Bravo, dead. Bravo!
Sorry, but I’m a LIer. It’s “the GW.”
What Christy did is nothing compared to Obozo making the govt shutdown as painful as possible. Same for the unions who when they get a minor budget cut makes sure it effects the most needed services instead of some dork in a back room playing tetris all day.
Gov Christie in support of NSA spying on Americans:
"...this strain of libertarianism thats going through both parties right now and making big headlines, I think, is a very dangerous thought,"
So, it now BITES HIM IN THE ASS!
Big deal. Democrats do this crap too. Nobody ever goes after them for it.
