A Chinese helicopter which landed on a makeshift landing pad next to the marooned ship ferried the scientists, tourists and journalists in groups of 12 to an Australian government supply ship, the Aurora Australis.

The passengers had been stuck for 10 days in thick pack ice ...........

Freedom? These 'tards were plenty free to go get stuck in the ice in the middle of Summer.

“The Shokalskiy’s crew of 22 will remain on board until the ice breaks up...”

I’ll bet they’re damn glad to see the end of the “passengers.”

What’s going to happen to the ship? Will it meet the same eventual fate as Shackleton’s Endurance?

But there’s no ice, libs told me so. Obviously they couldn’t have been trapped in ice that doesn’t exist. Obviously no rescue was necessary.

Russian research vessel, eh?

What, pray tell, were they conducting research on?

Heh, heh. As if I don't know the answer.

I don’t understand why the crew is staying on board. The ice will probably punch through the hull at some point.

I want to see their mug shots. They belong in jail.

On another note:
Prayers for the crew left behind.

These oh so sensitive and aware environmentalists should really feel guilty about the huge carbon footprint they made with their splendid adventure. But they won’t.

Wait a sec...
They’re not out of the woods yet. Aren’t they supposed to be barged from the Aurora to the Dragon? Isn’t the Aurora stuck in ice?

The Shokalskiy's crew of 22 will remain on board until the ice breaks up and she can sail on under her own steam. The ship is well provisioned and those on board have not been in any danger.

So the whole 'rescue' was basically for their convenience..?

"The ice will probably punch through the hull at some point."

I saw a report yesterday that the crew was going to be working on a patch for a gash 1.8m ABOVE the w/l.

Maybe....but it may melt away and leave the ship unharmed. And if the ice is thick enough to destroy the ship, then it will be thick enough for the crew to camp out on it until they can launch another rescue.
