Alabama Mom's ObamaCare Horror Story Gives America a Glimpse of Government-Run Healthcare
Independant journal Review ^ | 12/31/2013 | Emily Hulsey

Many of us can identify with the frustrating experience that Karri Kinder, a mother of two from Auburn, Alabama, has had with Obamacare. She penned this open letter to share her story:

An Open Letter to the Obama Administration and American Citizens:

My family’s journey with securing our new insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) started on October 1, 2013. I have decided to write this letter to let the American people know what it has been like for us. We are a family of four, with two little boys’ ages seven years old and three years old. My husband and I have had full time jobs for 6 years and 13 years respectively. We have been with the same two companies for those years. We are a middle class family; we own our three bedroom two bath house, we own two cars, and previously provided our own insurance for the four of us. We have coverage through Individual Blue from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama until 12/31/13. Our premiums have been $380.00 a month, which also included dental coverage for all four of us.

On October, 1, 2013 we received our letters like other Alabamians about our new premiums and plans for 2014 from Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Alabama. When I opened our letter to say I had sticker shock was an understatement. Our premiums for the Blue Saver Silver would now be $753.26. This included the ACA tax but did not include the additional $75.00 we would need to pay in order to keep dental for me and my husband. So we would need to pay total $828.26 to keep health and dental insurance for the four of us. This payment is roughly $64.00 less than what we pay for our mortgage each month.

December 6, 2013 I went to healthcare.gov and started our application. The process took me over two hours to complete. Once it was completed it came back with our results.

Yes, the coverage was private before January 1. After, her problems came with the law, not the insurance company. She was seeking a subsidy from the government, and the 'government' was telling her that the child did not qualify.

Middle Class citizens should be marching on Washington Dc with buckets of tar and feathers for every democrat SOB who voted for this.

We won’t though , we will struggle to pay it and half of us will vote for another democrat come November.

OK. But if they are debt free, own their own home and presumably make decent money with both of them being employed full time, I wouldn’t think they would qualify for the subsidy and I don’t know why they would think they would be entitled to one.

And again this doesn’t answer the question of whether either or both of their employers offer group health care insurance and why they didn’t mention or presumably bother look into that option.

IIRC, the subsidies go all the way up to 400% of the so-called ‘poverty level’ which is very high in my opinion.

The government also, I strongly believe has surreptitiously relaxed the requirements for Medicaid so that a number of the would-be subsidies will be foisted off on Medicaid to make it seem Obamacare is fiscally sound.

I also believe we will NOT see a truthful accounting of true Medicaid costs until after this bastard is gone, certainly not before November of this year.

-— When I opened our letter to say I had sticker shock was an understatement. -— I guess they didn’t pick up on five years of warnings.

Or had no common sense. What did these people think was going to happen?

The most confusing thing to me is why the American people are not rioting in the streets against these illegal government actions. The American people are acting like herded sheep being lead to the slaughter house.

A family of 4 is eligible for exchange subsidies up to $94K. Their off exchange premium rates may have tripled. In order to get a similar level of coverage on the exchange their rates doubled even with the subsidy.

In this case, this family is being forced onto Gov run health care, not to pay for those who won’t be responsible, but to become dependent on the government. Ridiculous her story.

The worst law in American history will not be repealed. Obamacare is the progressives' golden calf. For pubbies, it is a club with which to pound democrats.

If democrats think they will lose their cushy seat they will toss Oidiot under the buss faster than a cat can lick his A$$!!! Trouble is... how many will die before they either wake up or are defeated!!!

My neighbor told me the company she works for is going to pay employees to find their own coverage this year. They couldn’t deal with all of the nuances of the law. With the $300 they are getting a month, she said she will still be out of pocket $10,000 before insurance will start paying.

We are almost completely debt free currently and now all I see is very large medical bills in our future until the government can fix the issues with the ACA/Exchange.

She seems to think that fixing the Exchange/website is going to give her affordable insurance and pay medical bills. If they get a subsidy, the next major blow will be the huge family deductible before the insurance company pays a penny & of course, co-pays will be higher. Her son may lose his therapist and doctor(s) due to the narrow network. They're screwed .... as is the rest of America.

“I really don’t know how our government can allow this to be taking place.”

Our government willingly caused this to happen. That family must be just one of millions. I read every word, but am amazed that an obviously smart lady could could make that statement after such an ordeal.

The bank owns their home. They pay app. 900.00 p/mo for it. Definitely not debt free.

obamadontcare was created to fail so that it 1) wrecks the current health care system 2) causes people to clamor for a fix and 3) will be reverted to single-payer.

That’s why sebelius and zero stood firm on no “fixes” or any more exemptions... they are waiting for it to collapse.
