Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio vowed to act quickly to abolish horse-drawn carriages in the city.
"We are going to get rid of the horse carriages. Period, de Blasio said in response to a question at his press conference announcing his schools chancellor pick Monday.
Its over, he said.

This guy is a dangerous moron and New Yorkers deserve to feel the consequences of their stupidity.
So, no more NYPD Mounted Police?
To the poster who said it is inhumane to have horses in the city; then it is inhumane for dogs and cats and they need to go as well, that includes police dogs.
Though from what I noted onn my last visit to NYC, it was filled with animals of all sorts, most of them very inhumane.
Get with the program, komrad. Some animals are more equal than others.
The trails are still there (”bridle paths”); when I was younger there were still horses in the southern part of the park (Harriman St. Park), but they are gone now as well.
I’m one who actually hopes de Blasio tries to implement every fruitcake American-socialist fantasy in the book, and quickly.
I can’t wait to see what NY City looks like after that.
I hope they sue for loss of livelihood.
Why does it matter that he is white and she is black?
If only horses paid higher 1%er taxes he would be importing them instead by the carriage load.
The animals crowded round the van. "Good-bye, Boxer!" they chorused, "good-bye!""Fools! Fools!" shouted Benjamin, prancing round them and stamping the earth with his small hoofs. "Fools! Do you not see what is written on the side of that van?"
That gave the animals pause, and there was a hush. Muriel began to spell out the words. But Benjamin pushed her aside and in the midst of a deadly silence he read:
"'Alfred Simmonds, Horse Slaughterer and Glue Boiler, Willingdon. Dealer in Hides and Bone-Meal. Kennels Supplied.' Do you not understand what that means? They are taking Boxer to the knacker's!"
Blasio says it is inhumane to make the horses work and that they can be replaced with white heterosexual conservatives.
It’s nice YOU decided what the market should do about horses
Nevermind that there is apparently a supply and demand for the service that people enjoy and provide a way to make a living and feed a beautiful animal, YOU don’t like it- so THE GOVERNMENT should stop it to make YOU happy.
Any other things YOU don’t like that we should abolish?
romantic electric vehicle ride in the park”
Well, in the spirit of drones and electric robots, try this design:
Use same carriage. Make a fake horse robot mounted on the front.
Add some recorded sounds via speakers: clop-clop, neigh, plop-plop.
Finally some of that new ‘smell’ technology.
And a big, prominent electric plug in for visual effect.
Horses could be named - Lightning, Volt, etc.
Let me guess, the manufacturer of the electric vehicles has close ties to Blasio......
If there’s not a corrupt under-the-table deal driving this, then it wouldn’t be New York.
NYers deserve every bit of what this leftist freak show dishes out over the next 4 years. I will sit back and laugh.
“So when does NYPD mounted patrol get run out of town?”
They don’t.
It’s part of the control campaign so favored by NYC tyrants.
Only the police may keep guns and horses.
Eh, I doubt that. Affluent people aren’t taking horse-drawn carriage rides on NYC.
I think the animal welfare issue is a legitimate concern - I used to walk by the carriage stables on a semi-regular basis, and those horses are some of the worst-kept I’ve ever seen. Not that they should be banned, but there should at least be more attention paid to the horses’ conditions.
Lotta horse friendly places outside of the Pig Apple would be glad to have them.
is it inhumane to make me work too? Horses are more human than people? What’s he saying, I’m so confused! heh
New Yorkers deserve every damn thing this idiot foists on them. Sheep are meant for the slaughter!!!
Romanian horses were abandoned to starve after the EU banned horses on certain roads.
The old men who used the horses and carts to collect firewood to sell in town were no longer able to support themselves or their horses.
