Indy has seen approximately 10 percent more homicides per capita than the Windy City.

Per capita isn't really an accurate measurement of crime. In Chicago's case, there's many neighborhoods that are perfectly safe, and a small handful that are literal war zones.

Chicago: 1.7 murders per square mile

Indianapolis: 0.37 murders per square mile

It USED to be that way in Indy, but home invasions in 'good' neighborhoods have ended that illusion.
