Feninazis won. Nah, more like the economy forced both parents to work. Which many believe was orchestrated intentionally.
The “economy” didn’t force both parents to work,
TAX POLICY forced both parents to work.
If one father wasn’t supporting his family and 3 other families,
both parents wouldn’t have to work.
Exactly. We could live on my husband’s income. It would be tough, but we could do it. I would have more time to hand out laundry, wash cloth diapers, plant even larger gardens than I do, etc. as it is we already purchase basically ingredients versus packaged, prepared foods. I bake our bread and even make our corn tortillas. The reason I must work is for my retirement. We wouldn’t have enough to put a little something in my IRA every year so that I wouldn’t be a burden to our children, or be visited by a death panel. This was very well thought out, and the plan since FDR. I just count my blessings that I’m off every evening, weekend, holiday, and summer. My husband is on for 24 and off for 48. This means our in-home childcare expenses are minimal, but most importantly another person isn’t raising our kids.
FedGov needed more feed and too many mothers were at home un-measurably improving our economy by being moms. Pushing them out of the home allowed them to be taxed with the costs placed on all taxpayers once their kids grew up.
GDP is a terrible measure of national wealth.
