'Duck Dynasty' has a new fan
American Thinker ^ | Silvio Canto

A&E ran a bunch of "A Duck Dynasty" shows on Sunday. I finally sat down and watched a couple of them.

First, it is hilarious. You got these "ZZ Top bearded guys" with beautiful wives, a successful business and a wonderful sense of humor. Uncle Si is the greatest "TV uncle" since Uncle Charlie in "My 3 sons"! That fellow SI is a superstar!

Second, Grandpa Phil, the man in the middle of the controversy, looks like the kind of guy that you want to go hunting with. His wife, Miss Kay, is exactly the kind of woman you want cooking your next holiday meal. She loves dogs and spoils her grandchildren.

Third, the brothers, or the guys who run the business, are funny and treat their employees very well. Wonder how many people watching this show wished that they had a boss like "brother CEO"?

Fourth, I saw the Christmas play episode. We enjoyed the family putting a Nativity play at church and treating their friends to food and gifts.

There are a lot of people like the Robertsons in the south, probably everywhere else too. They are good family people who contribute a lot to the nation, from creating jobs to keeping our traditions intact.

I find myself identifying with Jase the more I read about him.

When I heard that quote, I about did a spit take of my coffee. Seriously - it’s socialist, communist, and any other bad -ist you can name.

“There is a bearded man burning leaves in his front yard. What are we going to do?! - Jase”

“She exclaimed “THAT’S A COPPERHEAD!” She forgave my ignorance. But there is nothing like offering your neighbor’s kids a poisonous snake to play with.”

There was a knucklehead in a neighborhood somewhere, I don’t remember where, that called animal control for a sick dog on her front porch. The pound guys got there, took one look and said, “lady, that’s not a dog, it’s a coyote and it’s likely rabid.” Luckily, she hadn’t tried to pet it.

Right on brother, it’s the South! I love the South but I am not from there, I am from Texas! :D

I need to help straighten you out.

Which side was Texas on in the Civil War?

Does that include the Bill Cosby-Himself show?

Not for everyone but that is funny in lots of parts....It always got a chuckle out of me...

I agree about the others...

Oh, I always liked Bill Cosby, primarily from “I Spy.” I have that series complete on dvd, in fact. Both his stand-up work and his ‘80s sitcom were genial fare, which was always easy-to-take, but I can’t say it excited me too much.

I told a friend of mine that if Obama won in 2012, I was gonna move to another country.

He said, "which one?"

"Texas," says I.

Taking care of elderly parent (Dad died last year at 94 and Mom is still kicking at 93). After Mom passes away, I will round up my herd of cats, raccoons, squirrels, and possums and head em out west.

Of course, that may not be for another 10 years.;-)

Yes I understand, take good care of mom, but when you do come, you won’t need to bring squirrels, raccoons or possums, we are well stocked with those critters. I might add we have plenty of coyotes and rabbits and I am talking about right in the middle of Houston. Oh yeah, armadillos, we are covered up with them. :)

Are you suggesting that Willie and Jase didn't really try to get the bees off the beehive with a shop vac attached to a long PVC pipe?;-)

It must be done more than you realize. I saw a show the other night Alaska The Last Frontier where the families bee hives were under attack by Yellow Jackets. The guy grabbed a shop vac and problem was solved in short order. This show as such is not a comedy or staged situations as the bees were actually swarming and they actually filmed the Yellow Jackets being sucked up. Rather in the case I speak of it was showing a Homestead families way of life and their ingenuity to survive the hardships.

Thx much.;-) Will let you know when I arrive in TX.

Is the range still free? I would like a coupla million acres on which to settle. As a cat rancher, I need space!

Catnip is a tough plant to grow on a small ranch...the herd starts munching on it at first sprout.

On the show you have a group of men who in real life have spent substantial time hunting and fishing. Most persons who have done such do have real events happen to them. I remember two of my dads friends he hunted with and hiked back country with us when I was younger. One trip supposed to be a Tree Rat hunt my dad spots a half grown coon. His friend ask where was it. A few minutes later we were in the process of a successful and some what hilarious capture we laughed about for years. You never heard such squaling and yelling. Both the coon and my dads friend who had it wrapped in his jacket trying to not get hurt. LOL

Another trip different friend we were back country camping & Trout fishing in the mountains and a black bear was showing up at camp. Dads friend decided to scare it off with his pistol. He fires twice but not at the bear the bear runs off. He waits about an hour and walks aways from camp to see if the bear is still around. He comes back with a rather pale look about him and we asked what happened. He said my rounds misfired BOTH OF THEM LOL. A two shot pistol LOL.

Next trip to the same area we stopped to eat lunch at a hiking shelter and a bear was walking around but thats not that uncommon. So dads friend starts chucking rocks saying look at that stupid old boar and yelling GIT Outta Here. About 15 minutes into it the Boar as he called it's two Cubs come climbing down a tree.

My point is these guys likely have story upon story of their life long experiences as sportsmen for plot ideas. Ones who don't hunt or fish may not catch the humor.
