Enter Duck Dynasty, a magically lucrative institution that simultaneously 1) is a reality show and 2) features conservative Christians. It was a money-printing machine for A&E until who could have predicted? one of its redneck stars did something one may have expected a redneck to do and our nation faced its greatest peril since, say, the Cold War. Has Western civilization ever confronted such an existential imperilment as the suspension of man-on-man-sex-eschewing Phil Robertson? A pretty big sector of the Internet submits that it has not.
There are perfectly understandable reasons to be upset about Robertsons suspension. But I, for one, am thrilled about it. I only wish A&E had gone further and suspended everyone on that stupid show, and also suspended everyone on all their other reality shows, and that all the other channels on TV that have reality shows had suspended all their stars too. Barring that, I wish great success to the Liberty Patriots who are boycotting A&E over Robertsons suspension, and I hope all other Americans, regardless of their patriot status, will join the A&E boycott, and that the A&E boycott will spread to include all the other channels that show this kind of nonsense, and that we can finally just get rid of it all for good, forever and ever amen. I want everyone suspended. I want every channel boycotted. I want every show shuttered, and permanently. I want to watch it burn.

Very well stated, brother!
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Not viewing the content does nothing to take money away from the offending network. You have already paid for the content. The Cable company couldn't care less if you watch the thing or not.
If you feel that strongly about it, don't pay the bill or cancel the service. They still won't care but they won't be getting your money.
Why pay all that money for cable if you can get 30 channels on these newer televisions without it or satellite or any other hook-up?
I had to educate myself in that reference.
Thank you!
Some people are saying “well, good, the nasty Screen Actors Guild writers’ union got greedy, and the networks said ‘screw you, we’re just gonna go with reality shows that don’t need you.’” Problem with that theory is why have channels that used to show decent documentaries (as opposed to scripted series) like History Channel, Discover, even (sometimes) Animal Planet all gone down the same path, with “Pawn Stars”, “Big Machines”, “Pit Bulls and Parolees” ad nauseum?
SOMEBODY hates Christianity much they're willing to destroy a large segment of the entire TV industry just to punish one old man for telling the truth about the differences between anuses and VayJays?
Sounds like the anuses aren't the only things full of crap...
No, I actually think Phil R. was dead on about homosexuality, and I with there was some sort of an extension of the First Amendment to protect people in his position, though every time I say that, I catch flack from the “original intent” crowd. But Wooduff does have a point. These shows (and I know DD has its good points, with faith etc.) have crowded out not only scripted series, but documentaries as well, like weeds crowd out good vegetation.
Exactly.

Merry Christmas to you too, Betsy.
I like Buying Hawaii, Buying Alaska and House Hunters International. Oh, Pawn Stars, love those guys. Anything to do with Housewives or pregnant teenagers is just embarrassing.
I’m with you on Pawn Stars. That is somewhat enlightening, and certainly funny and entertaining.

Spot on. What I’m wondering about is why people aren’t going after GQ magazine, they are the ones that got the ball rolling on the Duck Dynasty fiasco. They knew Phil Robertson’s stance on gays before they ever asked the question. They set him up and caused all this unrest (regarding this one case) in the United States. They should be brought up on charges.
Agreed. I enjoy "Cake Boss" (love that big Italian family) and "Little People, Big World", although it's become a train wreck with their marital problems. And, crass though it can be, "Impractical Jokers" makes me laugh until I cry.
The vast majority are not real either.
First they gave terrorist Mandela sainthood and now they want to control what is on TV?
I think you should not watch whatever you chose not to watch.
That's what America and Freedom is all about, personal choices.
I've watched a few DD episodes to see what the show was all about -- some sections of some shows were funny, and some sections were dumb, and some were good advice to viewers.
I don't need Betsy, or anyone else to chose for me, or to chose for anyone else in America.
As far as Breaking Bad, I watched a couple of episodes of that, to see what it was all about as well.
Apparently the main character was just fine making and selling Meth, to get money for his cancer/family.
Apparently whatever the Meth might do to other families wasn't high (or even on) his list of moral measures.
If I had to chose between the two programs, I'd definitely take DD and it's Bible believing, morality scenes, than the Meth cooking Breaking Bad show.
But that's my choice, your's is obviously different, and I don't call for your choices to be removed.
And I could be friends with a fan of Breaking Bad, even if I didn't agree the show's premise.
Finally, the author of this NR spew is trying to be too cute by half, and is certainly trying to posture herself as an elite -- her "one of its redneck stars did something one may have expected a redneck to do" comment indicates that to me.
Have a good weekend and a Merry Christmas.
People are free to watch what they wish, but I find them not worth my time.

I don’t watch tv often, but, every once in a while I just gotta watch a little Mike Holmes on HGTV.

Now with YouTube and the Internet there are many alternatives to what Cable throws you.
