Owner Darden Restaurants says the seafood chain is underperforming and wants to sell it. Red Lobster has failed to attract the number of higher-income diners that both Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse have.

Olive Garden has high end diners? Seriously? Is this from the Onion?
Maybe the author is also one of those that likes Walmart because they don’t have to dress up.
The economy ia bad and Red Lobster still has a black eye for supporting that lying waitress a few months ago.
I used to love Longhorn, and maybe it’s just our local one, but the steaks are tough now. Why pay premium price for a small tough steak? No thanks! I ate at a Red Lobster for the first time in decades a couple months ago, in Tallahassee and it was really good! It was very crowded. Hopefully, not all will close. I have NOT tried the local one in Valdosta, GA, but friends have said it is just okay. We are still somewhat “new” to the area and trying to find good restaurants is not easy! Terrible food, mostly. A couple high end restaurants have great food, but being retired, we cannot afford them...ever! It’s too bad for RL, though! This is a tough economy to make any business in.
Red Lobster quality of food has slipped. Darden should focus on what it wants to be not a Italian, seafood, steak chain.
Really long waits for a decent service crew to bring large servings of bad noodles to the table. They only stay in business because men pay high margins on bad pasta because young women love pasta, don’t know any better and already filled up on bread. Its generally cheaper than a real Italian restaurant but this is a situation where you get what you paid for.
Weird how RL became the restaurant of choice for blacks
Whites stopped going because they were turned off by the antics of some of the blacks, then the blacks stopped going because they don’t have the money because of the recesssion
All RL needs to do is change its name to Whiteys Seafood, problem solved
buca di beppo Italian? in what universe?
When they did away with the “Sensational 7” cake, my friend wisely asked if they had the fake plastic one that the servers would display when trying to sell dessert. They still had it... he asked if he could have it and so they gave it to him to take home.
We live in a world that has, as I put it, “settled for Applebees”. Disgusting, isn’t it?
I have just filled my freezer with Omaha Steaks food and find it to be better than most.
We do buy the sales and in person at the store. Now we find the store is closing Jan 6,
Just Say No!
Funny true story... I live about 5 hrs away from my parents and called them tonight to pass on my new schedule and that I would be coming home for Christmas... Dad was all like, "Your mother will have to make Christmas dinner... but that's OK". I could feel my mom's icy glare at dad through the phone. I told dad I was good with something from Schwan's so mom doesn't have to cook... and as I was hanging up, Mom said "Ok... breaded haddock squares works for me!" Hahaha!
Thanks, I hope the filet Mignon are better, probably will be.
She said by buying three different deals, she got a lot better price, tho it stills seems pretty expensive to me.
...its a reminder for me to flag down the next Scwans truck I see and buy a bag of frozen Cheddar Bay Biscuits.
Sam’s Club also sells the mix and it says right on the outside that it’s Red Lobster’s biscuits.
Frankly, any restaurant that you go to the mall to eat at is low to middle class.
Well, technically, chain restaurants are low class, your high-end jacket required restaurants are middle class, and upper class people don't eat out at all.
-— In the Era of Baraq, there aint enough prosperity to support all these restaurants -—
For us, eating out at McDonald’s, BK, or the local pizza shop is a splurge. I can’t remember the last time we ate at a sit-down restaurant.
I do like Olive Garden; Longhorn is OK. Never been to a Red Lobster.
Traditionally they may not have too many locations here in New England because there’s already a ton of seafood places,
ones that prob do a better job. Hey, I feel like opening a steakhouse in Chicago, how will I do...
Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.
Merry Christmas!!
I stopped going to that chain when they pulled their ads from Glen Beck.
Somewhere above a link was posted to recipes for the biscuits.
I just made a batch. Simple and as good as the restaurant ones.
In a nut shell it’s just a butter milk biscuit recipe with cheddar cheese, garlic powder and a pinch of cayenne added.
I added some dried parsley for color.
