For the record, I do not have a television, but I am fully aware of who Phil Robertson is. You can hardly go to Wal-Mart without seeing his face on posters. He has clearly made a name for himself with Duck Dynasty, his show on A&E. He and his family have become celebrities, both because of Duck Dynasty and because of his openness with his religious beliefs. Perhaps that will be his "undoing"? If you don't want to know what Phil Robertson believes, it would be best to not ask him. You may get more than you bargained for.
In a recent interview with QC, Phil Robertson let his views on homosexuality be known. A raging firestorm has ensued against him. First, his comments. Consider this a language warning. There is no profanity, but the language is clear because Robertson is plain-spoken.
Liberty News - It seems like, to me, a vagina as a man would be more desirable than a mans anus. Thats just me, Robertson stated. Im just thinking: Theres more there! Shes got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what Im saying? But hey, sin: Its not logical, my man. Its just not logical. The views Phil Robertson stated are his own and he is entitled to hold those opinions. I happen to agree with what he said and with the following statement, taken directly from the QC interview. He is paraphrasing the Bible, a passage in Corinthians. We never, ever judge someone on whos going to heaven, hell. Thats the Almightys job, Robertson told GQ. We just love em, give em the good news about Jesus whether theyre homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort em out later.
Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men, he says. Then he paraphrases Corinthians: Dont be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlersthey wont inherit the kingdom of God. Dont deceive yourself. Its not right. As much as Phil Robertson has just became immensely politically incorrect by daring to voice his opinions and quote the Bible about homosexuality, he is also telling the truth about today's society. That may rub the politically correct crowd the wrong way, but the truth of what he said is not diminished. I must say, it is quite refreshing to hear someone so popular in the entertainment industry be so open and honest with their views.
We Stand With Phil is a Facebook page for people wanting to show their support for Phil Robertson. Amidst the accusations against him, claiming he is guilty of hate speech and saying that the majority of Christians do not believe homosexuality is a sin, there is an outpouring of support for Phil Robertson. It appears he has much more support for his religious views than some people would like to give him credit for.
A&E has since censored Phil Robertson, placing him on suspension from Duck Dynasty. Since it's his show, they may find that hard to pull off, but let them give it their best shot. While a firestorm has exploded over his remarks, there is another fire that has started. In the terminology of a firefighter, I think this would be called a back fire. It is in support of Phil Robertson and it is threatening to do its job and put out the main fire of outrage against a private citizen sharing his views on homosexuality.
Homosexual activists have pushed their agenda for decades. We are seeing more and more references to the normalcy of homosexuality in our pop culture, music, movies, and other entertainment. It is not well received when someone like Phil Robertson dares to share his views with the rest of the world. They want people like him to be punished for the views they hold, instead of being free to express those views. I have no doubt the support that is now being shown for Phil Robertson is adding fuel to the fire of their consternation.
I thought we had freedom of speech, and freedom of thought? We should be able to express our opinions, and have people respect (but maybe not agree with) said opinions?
I hope the whole family all quit A&E in protest and move to a more worthy network, if it exists.
This is so totally wrong.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
Bring back Phil Robertson!
A&E is a 50% venture between Disney and Hearst. If the family rallies around the father and shuts down the show, these two companies will lose a lot of money from the product sales (their bread and butter). Trust me, there are some big licensees freaking out about this, I’m sure Bog Iger (Disney) will be getting some calls. Get the popcorn, this will get interesting.
Bog = Bob Iger
The conservative backlash will be like the “Chick-Fil-A” supporters on steroids. It may severely weaken A&E for being cowards. And it may finally expose the hypocrisy of the GLAAD mafia: the Pope is their new hero, even though he has the same beliefs as Phil on this issue. Hate the sin, love the sinners.
Duck-Phil-A, anyone?
Haha. Chick-Fil-A ... Duck-Phil-R. Lmao
Anything short of an endorsement is a hate crime.
How soon before our children are expelled from school for rejecting same sex date offers to the prom?
The camel”s nose is under the tent already!
I know this a bit off topic, but I cant help commenting on your opening line, for the record. My wife and I gave up our TV about 5 years ago, and we havent looked back. We are every bit as informed as those people that watch the news on TV, and probably a lot more. No newspapers either. We learn whats going on in the world exclusively from the internet.
Anyhow, the post was great. You couldnt have said it much better. I see that one of the contributing comments to this site suggests that the entire family boycott future productions. A great suggestion. And they should tell A&E not only that they must take Phil Robertson back, but they must apologize for challenging his right to express his offensive religious beliefs in other outlets.
I have a sense that the vast majority of their viewing audience are loyal to these guys and will support them in any action they take. Where they could go from here is beyond me (remember, I dont have a TV), but if he is a man of his word, which I suspect he is, he will trust the Lord Jesus Christ to show him what to do next to prepare him for the next life.
The faggotization of America is near completion.
“I thought we had freedom of speech, and freedom of thought? We should be able to express our opinions, and have people respect (but maybe not agree with) said opinions?”........
Back when this country was America, we DID have those freedoms. Unfortunately there are those who have decided to take those freedoms away and have since turned America into a 5th world country as even in some of the 3rd world countries you wouldhave such freedoms. Not so here in the U.S. IMO, I totally support and encourage Phil Robertson to keep saying what his beliefs are and if others don’t like it, they can go somewhere else. REAL Americans need to take this country back.
If the jerk didn’t want his opinion, he should not have asked the question...I got a feeling, they hope to get him to say something they want to here, not what his opinion is...gotcha question....oops...got an answer..The media is to use to getting meally mouth answers from people that fear the media...LOL
People who believe in God and Christ of the Bible, should get their values, morals and intellectual pursuits out of scripture, both inspired and limited. Otherwise, why pretend to be Christian, when religion doesn’t require it? If someone wants to be homosexual, religion will accommodate it without their pretending citizenship in the Kingdom of God permits it.
“.I got a feeling, they hope to get him to say something they want to here, not what his opinion is...gotcha question....oops...got an answer.”
I absolutely believe the media purposely orchestrated this controversy. First, the scheduled interview with BArbsra Walters, the GQ? These two don’t even remotely identify with the Robertson family’s values. Their purpose was to either ridicule or stir up trouble. Their show was getting way too popular and couldn’t be ignored any longer.
... choose this day whom you will serve ... but as for me and my house ... WE WILL SERVE THE LORD!
It's time for 'Blowback' Mountain. Freedom to praise the Lord and speak truthfully about His creation.
call the CEO. i did.
