The strip search has been acknowledged. How would we react in a similar situation with an ally? It seems an intentional affront. I know all about various abuses of diplomatic privilege. However the resulting dust up at at time when the Indian government is about to change is stupid.
Recognize that the anti-chinee position is one that is pro-Indian. Make no mistake— the chinee own our paper and don’t want India making any further inroads in the US. So they would like this treatment of Indian diplomat. The US had good relations with India, joint naval exercises war gamed vs. china (a real good thing). Like everything else- obamaumao and clintoon and jean kereee’ have f’d it all up. Take India over China any day. Obamaumao- being south asian black whatever— doesn’t like Indians— but does like their tech money and the commie Indian movie business in Mumbai.

The likely BJP government is markedly more anti Muslim than the Congress party. The Administration has to have taken that into account as the struggle to maintain their position with Pakistan.
Instead somebody decided to arrest her, the cuffs and strip search are SOP for someone who goes into the system. A $250,000 bond? Confiscate her passport? Threaten her with 35 years in jail? Has anyone given this case any thought?
This is really a strange one. Imagine a diplomat from the UK or Canada being treated this way. Or a Saudi? What is going on?
OK, let's imagine the USA closes the border to Indians. There are many Indians in India. Very many. Some of them want to go abroad, to study, and to move science and technology forward. Where will they go? The USA is closed. China is an enemy. But hold, there is yet another country, right up North, that is pretty large, has lots of resources, and can accomodate a large number of students and engineers... and that country never abused Indians.
After all that was just a few Seals,assorted consulate staff and an American ambassador that were murdered/raped/burned along with sovereign US territory that was burned and sacked. /S
With diplomatic status its a virtual get out of jail free card. When I was serving in D.C. in the military I was aware of multiple episodes of conduct by either diplomats or their dependents that would have landed an American in jail with serious time. This included arson, DUI that resulted in serious injury. This whole affair by the PD stinks to high heaven as a major screw up. It just matters who was giving the orders to do this.

To further obfuscate (but more detail than provided), from here:
“Under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the Indian deputy consul general enjoys immunity from the jurisdiction of US courts only with respect to acts performed in the exercise of consular functions,” US state department spokesperson Marie Harf said on Monday.
“So in this case, she fell under that specific kind of immunity, and would be liable to arrest pending trial pursuant a felony arrest warrant.”
But the spokesperson refused to answer questions about Khobragade being strip-searched and handcuffed, which has offended and angered the Indian government.
Harf said the state department’s Diplomatic Security followed standard procedures during the arrest, and then the diplomat was passed on to US Marshals “for intake and processing”.
I still say, "Go India". We've treated citizens of borderline (sarc) enemy status far better than they treated her. Maybe DHS had an alert for "Indian Body Cavity Bombs" </sarc> (India being such a horrible economic/military partner & all, Pakistan being such a good friend & all. Oops...did I cross the 'muslim line'? </sarc>)
The US is sure getting a well deserved reputation as a police state. These big cities are full of totalitarian pukes and punks.
Maybe the next re-make of Midnight Express should be in NYC or DC.
Interesting to see that the Indian government is being run by foolish children who are prone to temper tantrums.
I fully expect them to start throwing their toys around the room and soiling their diapers, and I wouldn’t be surprised to even see some of them up the ante by knocking their dinner plates off of their high-chair tables.

Yeah, they should’ve handled the officially-sanctioned sodomisation of their diplomat via “cavity searches” the way the US handled a similar incident a la Benghazi, where bodies of American consular officers were dragged with their entrails spewing out - expendable pawns in a bigger game, I guess.

Being a techy myself, this may have come up in the meeting with all the tech bosses. I’ll bet every Indian working here knows about this and word had gone up through the ranks.
The Indians are our friends and serve as a bulwark against the ChiComm apes. By 2030, half the population of India will be under the age of 30 and be the largest consumer market in the world. For that spear-chucking Kenyan to treat our Indian friends like this is outrageous. The fact that a few FReepers back obuma tells me how badly this website has deteriorated.
She was picked up by a special State Department team that handles diplomats and then turned over to U,S. Marshals. No details on if that Marshals group is used to this type of prisoner.
If they aren't a special group then they should have insisted a State Dept. rep stay with her during her entire incarceration.
Still pretty odd. If this doesn't turn out to be something akin to slavery then this will do some serious diplomatic damage with the world's most populous democracy.

The Indian jails are going to get quite overcrowded with Americans, I dare guess many US State Department officials are of the “sissy” persuasion, including the occupier of the White Hut
