Besides Ross Douthat, is there anyone left on the New York Times op-ed page who doesnt support benign dictatorship in the name of reducing congressional gridlock? Brooks evidently does. Tom Friedman, whos been drooling on himself for years over Chinas can-do model of government, certainly does. I dont know if Timothy Egans ever squarely addressed the issue but a guy who thinks Os big problem is that his speeches arent flowery enough must be open to persuasion.

So how do you energize the executive? Its a good idea to be tolerant of executive branch power grabs ...
Um ... okay ...

Liberalism once again proves itself to be a surprisingly simple and fool-proof indicator of mental illness.

“This is a good moment to advocate greater executive branch power because weve just seen a monumental example of executive branch incompetence”
That is like saying because a person is sick and fighting cancer what he needs are more powerful cancer cells.

If there is one thing History has taught us, it is that power corrupts. This inherent human problem is only exacerbated when a group of know-it-all elitists are the ones deciding who gets what power. History did not begin with FDR and it will not end with Obama. The US was wisely started with a desire for a limited government condign to the perpetuation of a nation of free men. We could have thrown it away for a thousand different reasons in the last 200 years, but we didn't. There is no reason to do so now.

Maybe he thinks being President of the federal government is not enough, he wants him in charge of everything?

King George III wanted no more than that. Brooks wishes we had listed to the wise, old gentleman - and stopped those Tea Party Radicals in their tracks. :)

No David, what the country needs now is a stronger President who knows how to work within our system to get the govt off people’s backs so they can produce as they always do when given the chance!

What the nation needs is a much smaller government that understands it contributes nothing; is a parasite and/or leach that just steals money from its working citizens and businesses and gives it to freeloaders, with politicians being the biggest group of freeloaders.

Either that, his model is that of a third world dictatorship. You give away your freedom with that much power residing unchecked in the executive branch, a magnet for dictators.
