Why not a free Obamacar?

What do the poor need most? Jobs? Nah. In Governor Moonbeam’s California they need free electric cars.
Free means that you’ll be paying for them. Even if you’re not a California resident, there will probably be Federal money involved.
“The California Air Resources Board is now embarking on a program that would help poor people buy energy-efficient vehicles. In one scenario posed by the agency, a “voucher” might even pay the full price for a Nissan Leaf, an electric car with an MSRP above $21,000, or for used cars with lower price tags.”
But it only stands to reason. If companies like Tesla and Karma get gobs of money from Obama. It’s time to make electric cars go full welfare.
“Apparently, wealthy people already are benefiting from subsidies to high-end electric car makers such as the Tesla. This law brings car subsidies directly to lower-income people. The law was authored by Sen. Fran Pavley, D-Calabassas, recently named one of two Legislators of the Year by the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers for her efforts to promote cleaner air.”
Sure. Cleaner air. Has nothing to do with a plan to buy and give away cars that no one wants.

Why not also buy them dinner for a year and throw in weekly theater tickets. It’s for the environment.
Come to California, where there’s no money to pay the cops or firefighters, but there’s plenty of money to buy electric cars for the poor.

Are these ‘lower income people’ employed and wanting to commute?

It’s electric. It doesn’t have gas, therefore no gas pedal.

Do these free cars come with free insurance? I’m sure California requires drivers to have coverage. So what happens when these free cars start getting into accidents?

Where is California going to get these "free" electric cars? Or do they mean that California is actually considering redistributing electric cars paid for by working taxpayers?

Well, you KNOW California has money out the wazoo and can afford this new social program/s. Liberals are such dumb@sses.

And when they return home from dinner and a show or a protest event (and return to the shadows) they may wish to mount one another and produce even more offspring for us to support.
We really need to consider a work-study program so that students (studying, say, community organizing, wymens studies or sociology) can lift these unfortunates on and off one another.
In some locations, giving away free cars could be cheaper than subsidizing transit — especially where bus passes are given to ‘the poor’, amounting to a 100% subsidy for transit.
(Please note: this is not an endorsement for the idea. Even if it cost no more than transit subsidies, it’s still a bad idea for reasons others here have stated.)

I can just see the brilliance of this asinine idea right now. Little electric hoopties outfitted with dingle-balls, curb feelers and blaring Rap musice at incredible decibles being pulled over by CHP for running red lights and no insurance.
Wonder how much a trashed Leaf abandoned in the impound lot will fetch at auction?
