Camden, New Jersey dumped its unionized police force last spring, unable to afford the lucrative union contract the city was stuck with, and instead contracted for police services with the nonunion county force. Crime promptly dropped. Ed Krayewski reports for Reason:
The city has been run exclusively by Democrats for several generations, and some local leaders openly worried that Camden, which already had the highest crime rate per capita last year, would get worse. But it hasn't. In fact, crime's gone down, as Fox News Latino reports:
The reorganization increased the amount of police on the streets and incorporated cutting edge technology such as ShotSpotter rooftop monitors. The initiative has already gotten results, according to city leaders.
Over the summer months this year, the murder rate fell by 22 percent and crime overall was down 15 percent, according to data provided by Camden County officials. When it comes to cops versus robbers, you can generally find me in the pro-cop camp. But police unions are another thing entirely. In return for their admittedly hazardous and stressful jobs, unions have in many places abusive contracts.

Interesting.
Let’s do this with TEACHERS....drop the UNION contract teachers, now!
ping!
Who’s doing the counting?
Camden is a crap hole and nothing changed that culture in a short period.
Disgusting town.
First time I went there was when I walked across the Ben Franklin. This was after a cop warned me not to go there.
I made it to the bottom of the bridge took one look south and left.
I then worked in Paramus for a couple of months and had to pass that Shiite hole every morning.
The views got worse everyday as I became more familiar with the area.
Years later I got a call from Camden PD to upgrade their communications infrastructure.
I had the appointment, picked up their lame-azz “RFQ”(They made the appointment seem like we were one of their first choices) and I hate RFQ’s about as much as I hate RFI’s.
Seems more like a crapshoot auction in which no relationship is created and I am not some objectified price quoter.
I passed the “lead” off to some moron who thought I had given him 10 years worth of Christmas.
You can literally hear Camden sucking from Rodney Square in Wilmington, DE.
Can’t think of a dumpier place I’ve ever been to in America.
My idea for rejuvenating the place?; Burn it to the ground and start over.
My other idea?; fence it off and put up warning signs every 150 feet to keep others from entering a war zone.
LOL! That’s funny. I think he sucking ozone though
Correction:
I “RFI’s” should read “RFP”.
Correction:
I “Paramus” should read “Pennsauken”. Camden’s red headed, Fugly, step sister.
Great idea.
How ya doing down in Oregon? We certainly miss you up here.
Certainly isn’t the same with you gone to Oregon, Billthedrill in Idaho, JustLori in Heaven and Libertina too busy to participate.
ahhh, Libertina . She is one of the truly good guys, colorful fonts and all.
Government Union = Organized Crime
This is good. I’ll have to look for the underlying source documents.
This was put in place by a big democratic party boss named George Norcross. The article is slightly misleading in that the county-wide force was created exclusively to reorganize Camden PD. There are no other cities in included in this force right now, and the police are free to unionize under the new structure. This was simply a way to shed pension and wage obligations and start over. It has only been in place since May so it’s a bit soon to tell whether crime will actually go down but it’s a very interesting experiment in deconstructing a union and reconstituting it as something else to get rid of financial obligations to the union members.
So their hiring security guards from walmart? good choice! Stay healthy my friends
Gee ya think?
This is the ONLY thing I like about Krispy.
“After this, therefore because of this” is a Logical Fallacy.
Needs to be a bit more information as to WHY the crime when down... Maybe more info along the lines of “The reorganization increased the amount of police on the streets and incorporated cutting edge technology such as ShotSpotter rooftop monitors. The initiative has already gotten results, according to city leaders. “
But it certainly is proof that dumping the union cops didn’t heard anything.
Thanks SeekAndFind.
In New York City, Perfect Storm is Building: 20 years of decreasing crime rates coming to an end.
