Starting housing chimps and pigs together at the zoos - maybe we can start over.

Show me the Pig-man! You do know there could be some truth to this if you look at Congress.

This so called theory must be a joke. As a scientist it is hard for me to believe that anyone who even took high school biology would think pigs and apes could breed. If it is not a joke then it is really disturbing that such a biological illiterate who claims to be a geneticist could get a job at a university. This is like a physicist claiming to have invented a perpetual motion machine.

I’m afraid that it’s like that Loverboy song:

“Chimpanzee and pig DNA just won’t splice.”

From the article, quote:

[J]ust the gradual accumulation of molecular differences in sperm and egg recognition proteins would mean that pig sperm wouldn’t recognize a chimpanzee egg as a reasonable target for fusion,' PZ Myers writes.

Furthermore, the blogger explains, while chimps have 48 chromosomes, pigs have just 38.

At some point someone will ask the good doctor where the pig and the chimp came from.

A pig and a chimp. Who does that remind me of? I think they live in the white house.

One of my ex-bosses met all the criteria, plus he drank alcohol also. And perhaps some of my relatives.

About a hundred years ago, I worked as a secretary for a biochemist at a California lab. At the time, he was working on perfecting an artificial heart valve for humans. They were using pig hearts for their research, since their structure was the most similar to a human heart.

There were often several buckets full of bloody pig hearts in his lab for use in their work.

Funny, I don't recall there ever being an assertion that pigs were in any way involved in human evolution.
