The college I teach at promotes women travel alone.

They posted a flyer that says:

“Travel as a single woman? Don’t wait for someone to travel with you—go at it alone here or abroad! Receive practical information on safety and activities to take charge of your life and travel as you wish!”

This poster has a picture of a young, petite woman with a backpack as she traces her route over a map.

Good gawd.

This “Buffy” mind-set is really getting out of hand.

People doing dumb things in the presence of dangerous critters aren't just an American phenomenon. Unfortunately, people either keep forgetting or never learn that, outside of microbes and insects, man is the most dangerous predator of them all.

Traveling abroad is great. Go with friends and watch each others' backs. Be careful. 95% of the people are good people. That 5% know how to spot an easy target and prey on it.
