Full title:

Woman, 21, on Louisiana adventure to 'figure out life' is found murdered and dumped in a bayou after asking strangers for ride

The body of Lindsay Louise Ellixson, 21, was found in a canal in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Saturday by fishermen

She had been killed by blunt trauma to the head, neck and chest and had been in the water between two and five days

Ellixson had been on an extended trip 'exploring the world', with her adoptive mother, Catherine Ellixson, saying she 'had a lot of struggles she needed to overcome'

Social media posts show Ellixson pleading for 'a ride and somewhere to stay' in the months before her death, also listing herself as 'engaged'

Her boyfriend, Clinton Allen Head, 31, said they were never 'officially' engaged but were 'in love'

Her heartbroken father, Chris Ellixson, said: 'She's looking down on us, smiling, wishing us a happy Thanksgiving.'

The FBI are hunting the killer responsible for the murder of 21-year-old Lindsay Louise Ellixson, whose badly beaten body was pulled from a bayou in Louisiana following a 'brutal and violent' death.

Originally from Orlando, the girl known for her 'big blue eyes' was traveling the country after high school trying to 'figure things out', according to family, when she was found by fishermen about 3pm Saturday in East Baton Rouge.

Investigators say she had been in the water for two to five days, with an autopsy revealing she was killed by blunt force trauma to the head, neck and chest.

The case has been classed as a homicide.

'She was beaten to death and left there,' Chief of Investigations Shane Evans told WFTV.

'Someone did this to her and put her there.'

'It was unusually brutal and violent.'

The victim's adoptive mother, Catherine Ellixson, said that she kept

“...in a canal in East Baton Rouge”

Well... I’m not surprised.

Louisiana probably not the best place to try to figure out life but a shame to learn that lesson the hard way.

“So many know so little and die to prove it.”

I can’t think of any truer words spoken of late. This girl went out into the world with no plan, no idea, and, no clear way to defend herself against the evil that lurks out there for all of us.

Over the last several years I’ve had a couple of girls show up at my door in similar shape. It was a pain in the ass but in each case I decided that my conscience would rest better knowing that I’d gotten them to someone who could help them rather than reading later about their body being found in a dumpster somewhere. Hell of a thing sometimes.

While working at a language school in Japan in the 90s, a daffy female co-worker decided to do a ‘walkabout’ in Africa with her mom during her Golden Week vacation. When asked about her route, she had a map showing her going through the Sudan and some other dangerous places, maybe some of the most dangerous on Earth. She had no clue of the political climate and brushed off my warnings. They were never heard from again. British relatives called. Her apartment was left as if she intended on coming back. Sometimes, Stupid fixes itself.

Very sad. She sounded confused and unhappy in her last messages. But didn’t ask her family for help getting back to Orlando.

Louisiana is a great place to hang out. It’s that there’s a difference between the “locals” and the “natives”. Some areas you could have a flat tire at 2AM down a dead end road and someone will help you. Others you could could simply be at risk driving through at 2PM.

Know the difference and stay alive.

When you are a young woman, really a girl, the only place to figure out life is at home with watchful parents, books and Sinday Church. And nice young men calling and girlfriends.

"Louisiana probably not the best place to try to figure out life..."

Maybe not the best place, but better that some.

When I worked in South America, I frequently encountered young Americans hitch hiking their way through some extremely remote areas, and I'd try to warn them that if they continued on down the road they were on, they were going to encounter people who would kill them for no more reason than the shoes on their feet, but they'd ignore me and naively continue on down the road.

In my world travels, I've learned that our children, after growing up in the average American community, just aren't prepared for life in the real world.

The nude hiker from this last summer was never found.

http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/14832134-was-maureen-kelly-eaten-by-animals-in-the-wilderness

The 19-year-old Vancouver woman vanished June 9 when she walked away from a campsite completely nude to embark o na spiritual quest. There have been no signs of evidence in the search for her, which is perplexing. She was wearing a fanny pack when she disappeared, and no sign of it has been found either.

.....

If Maureen Kelly was eaten by wild animals, then she suffered a fate that is unimaginable. It would also explain a lack of evidence, if animals dragged her fannypack or other items deeper into the wilderness. There are just so many different avenues of speculation, but this latest suggestion made by Jess Hanson seems very feasible.

Too many people think of “nature” like they do about wild animals. It’s pristine and wonderful and safe and harmonious......like a damned Walt Disney movie. It’s not. There are things out there (nature itself, animals, people) that will kill you. Now, there are plenty of good people out there but there are also plenty of others that are not.

It’s a crying shame that someone has to die to figure this out when it seems so obvious to others.

Margret Mitchell went to Smith, and was engaged to a young man killed in World War I, married another who abused her and a third who cherished her. In the interim, she was a journalist and wrote a noteworthy book. It took her a while, but I’d say she figured out life better than most.

May God hold you in the palm of His hand, Lindsay.

Prayers for the family that they can find some peace on this holiday. This is horrible.
