Radio giant Rush Limbaugh is scorching the leader of the Roman Catholic Church for criticizing unfettered capitalism, saying, This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the pope.
You know the pope, Pope Francis has issued an official papal proclamation, and its sad, Limbaugh said on his national broadcast Wednesday. Its actually unbelievable. Its sad because this pope makes it very clear he doesnt know what hes talking about when it comes to capitalism and socialism and so forth.
Im not Catholic, Limbaugh added, but up until this I admired the man.
In the 84-page document titled Evangelii Gaudium, which was released Tuesday, Pope Francis called upon politicians to provide dignified work, education and health care to all citizens.
The commandment Thou shalt not kill sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, wrote the pope. Today we also have to say thou shalt not to an economy of exclusion and inequality. Such an economy kills.
Noting that he had visited the Vatican numerous times, Limbaugh observed wryly: Believe me, it wouldnt exist without tons of money. Somebody has either written this for [the pope] or gotten to him. This is pure Marxism.

God does give his clues and as many of us delight in a mystery I think He might just delight in providing us with one or two.
Would be interesting if Obama and the Pope team up for something in the near future. *wink*
Is that a distinction with a meaningful difference?

ENCYCLICAL LETTER CARITAS IN VERITATE 67. To manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result; to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace; to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration: for all this, there is urgent need of a true world political authority, as my predecessor Blessed John XXIII indicated some years ago. Such an authority would need to be regulated by law, to observe consistently the principles of subsidiarity and solidarity [ambiguous], to seek to establish the common good, and to make a commitment to securing authentic [another favorite ambiguous word] integral human development inspired by the values of charity in truth.
. Furthermore, such an authority would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all, regard for justice, and respect for rights. Obviously it would have to have the authority to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties , and also with the coordinated measures adopted in various international forums.
VATICAN CITY (CNS) Pope Benedict XVI and other church leaders said it was the moral responsibility of nations to guarantee access to health care for all of their citizens, regardless of social and economic status or their ability to pay.
Governments are obligated, therefore, to adopt the proper legislative, administrative and financial measures to provide such care along with other basic conditions that promote good health, such as food security, water and housing, the cardinal said. - http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1004736.htm
Pope Francis believes in a state-centered system that has failed miserably thorough out history. Jesus never said that the riches needed to be controlled by the state. He expected all of us to come to God through our individual practices of loving God and our fellow man.
I was surprised when Obama removed the ambassador to the Vatican, since they both believe in Socialism, but I guess
they differ on who the state is and who does the administering of the collective goods.
Part IV. Of the Kingdom of Darkness
Chap. xlvii. Of the Benefit that proceedeth from such Darkness
[21] ...For from the time that the Bishop of Rome had gotten to be acknowledged for bishop universal, by pretence of succsession to St. Peter, their whole hierarchy (or kingdom of darkness) may be compared not unfitly to the kingdom of fairies (that is, to the old wives' fables in England, concerning ghosts and spirits and the feats they play in the night). And if a man consider the original of this ecclesiastical dominion, he will easily perceive that the Papacy is no other than the ghost of the deceased Roman empire sitting crowned upon the grave thereof. For so did the Papacy start out of the ruins of that heathen power.
[22] The language also which they use (both in the churches and in theirpublic acts) being Latin, which is not commonly used by any nationnow in the world, what is it but the ghost of the old Roman language?
[23] The fairies, in what nation soever they converse, have but one universal king, which some poets of ours call King Oberon; but the Scripture calls Beelzebub, prince of demons. The ecclesiastics likewise, in whose dominions soever they be found, acknowledge but one universal king, the Pope.
Part III. Of a Christian Commonwealth.
Chap. xxxviii. Of Eternal Life, Hell, Salvation, and Redemption.
[12] And first, for the tormentors, we have their nature and properties exactly and properly delivered by the names of the Enemy (or Satan), the Accuser (or Diabolus), the Destroyer (or Abaddon). Which significant names (Satan, Devil, Abaddon) set not forth to us any individual person, as proper names do, but only an office or quality, and are therefore appellatives, which ought not to have been left untranslated (as they are in the Latin and modern Bibles), because thereby they seem to be the proper names of demons, and men are the more easily seduced to believe the doctrine of devils, which at that time was the religion of the Gentiles, and contrary to that of Moses, and of Christ.
[13] And because by the Enemy, the Accuser, and Destroyer, is meant the enemy of them that shall be in the kingdom of God, therefore if the kingdom of God after the resurrection be upon the earth (as in the former Chapter I have shewn by Scripture it seems to be), the Enemy and his kingdom must be on earth also. For so also was it in the time before the Jews had deposed God. For God's kingdom was in Israel, and the nations round about were the kingdoms of the Enemy; and consequently, by Satan is meant any earthly enemy of the Church.
Part IV. Of the Kingdom of Darkness
Chap. xlvii. Of the Benefit that proceedeth from such Darkness
Besides these sovereign powers, divine and human, of which I have hitherto discoursed, there is mention in Scripture of another power, namely, that of "the rulers of the darkness of this world," [Ephesians, 6. 12] "the kingdom of Satan," [Matthew, 12. 26] and "the principality of Beelzebub over demons," [Ibid., 9. 34] that is to say, over phantasms that appear in the air: for which cause Satan is also called "the prince of the power of the air";[Ephesians, 2. 2] and, because he ruleth in the darkness of this world, "the prince of this world":[John, 16. 11] and in consequence hereunto, they who are under his dominion, in opposition to the faithful, who are the "children of the light," are called the "children of darkness." For seeing Beelzebub is prince of phantasms, inhabitants of his dominion of air and darkness, the children of darkness, and these demons, phantasms, or spirits of illusion, signify allegorically the same thing. This considered, the kingdom of darkness, as it is set forth in these and other places of the Scripture, is nothing else but a confederacy of deceivers that, to obtain dominion over men in this present world, endeavour, by dark and erroneous doctrines, to extinguish in them the light, both of nature and of the gospel; and so to disprepare them for the kingdom of God to come.

Revolting cat’s comments indicate to me that we have exposed a leftist mole in our ranks......
wow, the leftists on FR are coming out from under their rocks........
Charity is where one voluntarily gives of the fruit of their labor to help others. Socialism is where the government redistibutes the wealth of those that give to the government to whom it sees fit. And the giving to the government is not voluntary. The government collects via the power of the gun. that short circuits the whole law of giving and receiving as described in the bible.
I agree pretty well completely with all the distinctions that you make—in fact, I made them in a less articulate manner in post 71. Where precisely in the document does the Pope say that the government ought to redistribute wealth by force?
A system that at least was present in the U.S. but is not, unfortunately, in Canada, that strikes a happy medium is progressive taxation coupled with very heavy tax breaks—yes, if one makes a lot and chooses not to give anything then the government will take something, but if one may opt to donate to the designated charity of one’s choice instead.
This makes the manner of distribution entirely voluntary while providing a certain check on the endless (in the sense of done to no final purpose) accumulation of wealth.
“The glory days of the Church were the 13th century. That’s the model this pope is invoking — no capitalism, no individual initiative for profit, everything (theoretically) for the good of the social order as defined by the Church.”
Exactly. The static model of Catholicism has been a sucker for the Democrat pseudo-socialism (ever hear the term “social justice”?) and has been completely unable to adapt to the last century’s secular challenges. Not to say that Protestantism is perfect but have you checked out a European cathedral lately? Coming soon to the US.
In the age of the telephone and the TV and the Internet, to put it very simply, insisting that every man and woman of faith supposedly rely on their priest’s interpretation (really the official line of the Vatican) of the Word and their faith is the height of absurdity. You might as well use sex-ed tactics of the 1940’s. Ignorance, glorified old-wives’ tales and denial of access to information simply does not work anymore. Young people’s beliefs are totally outflanked once they get out of their parent’s controlled environment.
I guess that whatever a Pope says is not to be questioned, no matter how outre'. Only idiots revere a man in the name of revering The MAN. Humans are fallible - get over yourself.
Cordially,
agreed it’s liberation theology
agreed
hmmm . does that make them the anti-two witnesses???
Marxism? Peronism?
There’s a difference? Both lead to hunger and death.
True dat.
The link was very informative.
But...Marxism or Peronism both lead to hunger, death, and dictatorship.
