From one of the comments:
This is correct. We long ago abandoned the tactical team work and stacking procedures when an active shooter is running around. This has been instituted on a national level. Its not a local thang..
1.) Find shooter, 2.)Stop shooter. 3.) Eat Donut.
That is the protocol. Much discussion has been vetted about the acceptable losses of officers lives, should the first or second officer go down, and, on a national level, especially when kids are involved. These are acceptable losses. The goal is to put pressure on and keep the shooters attention on us and not the kids. If the first wave should fail
the next ones gets as crack
etc. Either way, keep the shooters attention on us and never ending pressure, no more surround and negotiate.
I do not disagree with the outrage over this report.
Used to live next to Newtown. The town & countryside around there is generally rural and very peaceful. LEO in Newtown is a plum assignment because hardly anything big (”life-threatening”) ever happens (or is reported, some argue).
Take it easy on this officer, whoever he may be. He might even be an incognito FReeper. I feel profound sorrow for him.
I feel angry at, but sorry for, the citizens living there who fight the right to carry, or try to bully out gun-owners, handguns, rifles or shotguns. I also pray they will change their minds and at least get a shotgun and learn how to use it and secure it responsibly.
Some of them learned, some didn’t, and the legislative climate got much, much worse. Today I read with mixed glee and dismay about the firearms companies who decided to abandon the state.
(I believe a final report on Newtown is expected Monday).
Fortunately, all cops are not cowards.
I personally knew a deputy who engaged multiple armed robbers by himself and lost his life.
Making sure there were no dogs needing to be shot on the way in...
just remember. you’re on your own.
One suspects that the initial responder was following orders, and there may be extenuating circumstances on how those orders came to happen.
Reserving judgment for later.
.
Exactly what does “backup” entail - it is two officers or four or ten or twenty before they enter looking to engage the shooter?
when seconds count, cops are minutes away.
Same at LAX: poof out your chest, mucho tactically, swing your AR around “securing the area” for 40 minutes while a poor innocent guy slowly bleeds to death as the paramedics are sequestered outside the scene.
Gee, it’s only taken them a YEAR to get the report out on a single shooter who acted alone.
The one thing that bothers me that has yet to be explained is the shotgun they say Lanza left in the trunk.
They claimed that Lanza used his .223 to shoot out the window. Unfortunately, sometimes a .223 round doesn’t play well with glass depending on the angle of the shot.
And if regular glass why not just use the butt of the rifle and pound the glass out?
I’ve yet to see a pic of the shot out glass were Lanza gained access to the school. Hopefully one will be in this report.
Careful what you write here people, the NSA is a caring and sharing agency. P!ss some agency off and you will find out how brave the LEOs are with a “no knock warrant” and a SWAT team at 3 am at your house guns blazing .... heart felt apologies later to your relatives about the house number mix up!!!
are the names of these people known?
ping
Well lets face facts. If cops get a call for Domestic dispute between husband and wife they wait for backup.
Is it really expected to act differently when a school is being shot up?
This speaks to law enforcement training. They like having overwhelming force and are far less bold when this is not ensured.
Alexander Pope said fools rush in where Angels fear to tread.
This is the vein of one of the excuses proffered by this administration in response to the outcry over the absence of rescue relief for the 09/11/12 Benghazi victims.
To serve and protect!?
Otherwise?
any rationalization of other may well be the toughest part.
The local firefighters have more brass than the cops...
And if that sours cops here, well, tough $hit. When you look the other way for a paycheck this is the society that results. Do something about it and don’t whine about our righteous opinions.
After all, LEOs are primarily being militarized in order to more efficiently storm into the homes of innocent civilians at 3 A.M. in hopes of bagging a dog, senior citizen, or, better yet, a wheel-chair-bound invalid.
Their prior success in using a tank to batter down walls and insert incendiary devices in order to incinerate dozens of children has born fruit in the ensuing years...
Dear leader is counting on them to join the (now fully armed) federal work force and the obamacare SS unit presently being recruited, as his instruments of terror when confiscation begins.
Bump
This new breed of "Law Enforcement" officers make me want to puke. Bullies and cowards with military haircuts, bloused pants, black tactical boots and lead weighted gloves.
Punks that are only good for intimidating soccer moms and office workers.
There are not very many that could hold a candle to the cops that I knew growing up.
