"When cops see four young males in a car, they immediately wonder if this is a crew of criminals out to do a job." If you're going to ride four deep, have one member of your car wear a highly visible item of clothing indicating what you do for a living. For instance, if you're all construction workers car-pooling on the way home from a job site, someone in the car should wear a hard hat. Seriously.
Either that or they’ll bring in a dog. They can make the dog “hit” anytime they want. Now you’re under arrest and you’re car is being towed. Cops are out of control in this country. And if the SHTF, don’t count on them to be on your side.
Its not the cops its the system. Here in Plano, Richardson, Garland Texas after the 2009 recession they had to lay off cops do to less sales taxes coming in. I got ticked twice for 2 miles over the speed limit. They have told the cops your job now is partially funded by tickets.
Be boring. Drive a non-descript car. Don't go out at night. Wear a hard hat if traveling with three other guys. Vomit on your clothes and defecate in your pants (so they won't want to arrest you and put you in their car). Start crying like a baby as a last resort.
Is this for real or some rejected Onion submission?
I sure would like to think so...
Most of the old-timers are okay, but has been my experience that the same holds true for a lot of professions. Unless they are bona-fide martinets, the old heads seem generally too weary of the dirtbags, shysters and lefty judges to want to torment people for no real reason.
The younger ones... man, I don't know what is up with them these days.
Mr. niteowl77
I lived in Plano in the late ‘80s. Had long hair, drove an old piece of Dodge crap, and hung out with the wrong crowds (who knew the chicks). I was harassed by the Plano PD constantly -having never broken the law.
These days now in north Denver, Adams County sheriff’s deputies and other local PD have only bothered with me once in the last five years.
“Don’t visit New Mexico.”
I’m at the age where a colonoscopy is being recommended...
Very true. We rented a minivan to take from Oklahoma to Michigan. Happen to look deep in the console between the back seats, 3 empty beer bottles, I kid u not!
My all time favorite clip on YouTube.
Perhaps you people stuck in Lib-land have corrupt cops, but our officers down in most of Texas are overwhelmingly conservative.
Sure, they might go get a warrant, or call in the dogs to sniff around and give them a signal, or just search it anyway based on some invented “probable cause”. Still, if you give consent, they don’t have to go through that rigamarole, so you are giving up whatever chance you might have had to avoid a search. Also, you’ll have little recourse if they do find something and you have to try to contest it in court. If you refuse, a good lawyer can at least make a decent case that the search was improper and try to get that evidence thrown out.
Doesn't work. In my younger years, I got stopped numerous times and cops searched my car. Protesting didn't help. And twice, cops stole personal items from my car. Complaints to the police department had no effect. When they didn't find any contraband, I was given speeding tickets even though I wasn't speeding. Later, I worked with cops and understood that they are not doing the job to serve the public.

And just think.
If the MADDcows had their way, you’d probably do time if a cop found those bottles

Give this a watch. It’s a seminar put on by a law professor.
How to Thrive In Prision. 33 Things They Won’t Tell You
I hope you're being sarcastic.
Yes, I’m being sarcastic. We should break every law we can, every chance we get.
Your original thesis is incorrect, that being a law-abiding citizen offers protection from police abuse. Used to be the case in America. No longer.
