WASHINGTON - President Obama will allow insurance companies to continue offering individual health plans that do not meet the standards of the Affordable Care Act through next year, according to a Democratic source on Capitol Hill familiar with the plans.
The plan, which the president will announce Thursday morning, is intended to placate millions of consumers who have received cancellation notices from insurers in recent weeks. Obama had repeatedly promised that consumers would be able to keep plans that they liked.
The president was under intense pressure from Democrats on Capitol Hill to find a fix. House Democrats have increasingly threatened to support a Republican proposal due for a vote Friday. And Democratic senators have offered their own legislative fixes.

So what happens if you insurance company offers you the chance to go back to your old plan, even if you have paid for the new plan?
Will they offer that option to people who have already enrolled and paid for the new plan, or will it be offered to those who have not?
This guy looks like he just got beaten...
He is not, nor has never been my choice. However he was and still is the choice of 47% of the voters and the Democrats are capable of stealing enough to make 51% when it gets that close.
Under what authority does the President (ANY President) have to simply “modify” laws which were passed by Congress? I mean, without having to go BACK to Congress to get these changes codified into an actual LAW?
I mean, as written, these insurance companies can NOT just make wholesale changes because a President said, “Okay, just do it!” They could be held liable, REGARDLESS of what the President said!
The first person who keeps his old plan, then has some medical condition which is NOT covered under the old plan, but WOULD BE covered under an Obamacare plan, has a very STRONG legal leg with which to beat the insurance company to death!
And when the insurance companies say, “The President said it was okay.” The courts are going to FORCE the insurance companies to pay and will probably award damages, because the LAW says they MUST comply!
If I was the insurance companies, I would say, “NO EFFING WAY are we going to operate on the word of a KNOWN LIAR!” Because it will be THEIR asses that pay, not The Won!
There are industry consultants though who have been speaking out.
“Cruz was right, we need to delay this for a year. Sorry about the shutdown.”
He should know that not even the Emperor can unring a bell.
Unbelievable, isn’t it.
President Obama will allow insurance companies to continue offering individual health plans....
From where does he get this power?
Ted Cruz was RIGHT.
And what gives him the legal authority to chang a law written by congress?
Oh, that’s right. He is our King, not President.
Insurance companies have done enough to drag themselves through the mud without anyone else doing it.
I was wondering that also. And in the case of our group plan the final paperwork hasn’t been signed so there are going to be employees who want to go back and those who don’t.
obamacommunism
I wonder if this decree extends to groups plans or just individuals?
What happened to “It’s the law, deal with it?” How many modifications has Obama written into this law after it was passed?
Would someone explain how he can direct health insurance companies to reinstate plans that have already been cancelled? Is this another GM and Chrysler?
I hope for two things.
That the insurance companies lose their behinds in this deal because they jumped on the obumbler care band wagon only because they thought they would be on a gravy train at our expense.
The other thing I hope for, probably without any chance:
Is that congress will insist that the only way to get out of this mess is to repeal obumbler care and go at the problem from the standpoint of free choice and free enterprise, with a good dose of charity for those really in need.
Not likely, but the only right way.
