About 20,000 jobs at Boeing and its suppliers are riding on the decision of where to build the 777X, which is set to become a key part of its fleet.
Also at stake is the Machinsts' pension plan, which will be converted into a 401(k) type of retirement program if the contract is approved.
That change has sparked anger among Boeing workers, and raised the odds that the union will vote no on the deal. That could stir up labor unrest that could hurt both Boeing and its airline customers. The Machinists represent 33,000 of the 84,000 Boeing employees in Washington state.
Results of the vote will be reported late Wednesday.

Considering the pension plan now, ain’t gunna happen! It is generous to say the least.
I do believe that you’re right. But mostly because of the machinists own voting record. As for union votes in general there recently was a grocery workers union vote that was sure to go against the contract but went the other way. And the gas workers at PAS (a local utility company) are expected to reject their proposed contract because of similar pension issues.

They are emboldened by the union thug in the White House. However, his declining popularity could explode in their faces. I doubt they will be able to see beyond this. Suspect they will vote “no”, Boeing will try to move, and then the battle will be whether the federal government will prevent that from happening. Obamacare has so crippled the Democrats that the union will lose to a right to work state. Tough noogies.
There's only so many high-tech companies, and without the manufacturing jobs many people will be hurt.
Not just Boeing employees, but the businesses that depend on the workers and their purchasing power.
Like ANY business, if a union pushes too far, instead of getting 75% of what they want, they'll end up with nothing.
Wroblewski, president of the union’s district 751 in the Seattle tore up the new contract and called it a piece of crap....
That doesn’t sound like a bargain is in the works.

Yep, they should move the manufacturing to Texas. Plenty of room out west with very low humidity. Right to work state. No place like Texas!
Most non-union divisions of Boeing did away with pensions, in favor of 401k plans, a few years ago. They’re very good 401k plans, but still don’t hold a candle to a pension plan.
We had a chance at Boeing corporate coming to Texas.
They went to Chicago stating “quality of living”.
The only people that got full pay were the union stewards and officers.
Not flying Boeing aircraft is not an option for me.
Incidentally, can we expect to see the current crop of hoods start sabotaging the construction of new aircraft as we have seen in the past?
