Tacloban The death toll from a super typhoon that decimated entire towns in the Philippines could soar well over 10,000, authorities warned Sunday, making it the country's worst recorded natural disaster.
The horrifying estimates came as rescue workers appeared overwhelmed in their efforts to help countless survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan, which sent tsunami-like waves and merciless winds rampaging across a huge chunk of the archipelago on Friday.
Police said they had deployed special forces to contain looters in Tacloban, the devastated provincial capital of Leyte, while the United States announced it had responded to a Philippine government appeal and would send military help.
"Tacloban is totally destroyed. Some people are losing their minds from hunger or from losing their families," high school teacher Andrew Pomeda, 36, told AFP, as he warned of the increasing desperation of survivors.

Quite interesting and entertaining...I had no idea the advertising is very much like American advertising...in other words selling sex, beauty, food, pills etc...

Yup...I always find it amazing that seemingly rational people think that planet earth is some sort of sentient entity that has the ability to seek revenge or send a message to it's parasites (the human race) living off of it...
In the province, it's another world ... nicer, IMO.
Are the metro areas infested with feral worthless gibsmedat youth...?

The nightly news special ended a few minuets ago.
Keep checking, as they have extensive coverage of the disaster.
Alex is off to bed. Thanks for all FReeper concern for the victims of this disaster...back in about 8 hours.
I worked at the Pagbiliao Power Plant just south east of Lucena City. Any word on how it faired. Didn’t seem to be that high above sea level but not sure of the typhoon track.
As Chesterton said (paraphrasing), people who don’t believe in God will believe in anything.
say; “ninety nine” ten times fast
Quezon would be quite north of the Typhoon. There should have
been little or nothing there. This storm was quite tight.
say; ninety nine ten times fast”

That’s nothing.
Some Liberal sites are flat out blaming America for this.
For one reason or another, it’s either our oil dependence, our lack of concern for the environment, or the evil Dick Chaney weather machine (not joking), that resulted in this super storm.
Liberals hate this country without measure and blame us for ALL the worlds ills.
Which flys in the face of that HUGE, red, swirling, 1100 mile wide ... etc.
THAT'S what has me confused.... and pisses me off.
Good to see you are ok. Storm looked real ugly on satellite.
Best wishes to all involved with this topic.
Maximum hurricane winds are usually within 30 miles of the eye. The huge expanse is rain bands.
I understand that calling it the worst ever is just PR, as typhoons aren’t monitored with in-storm instruments as hurricanes are.
