From the excerpt:

A jury convicted a doctor of murder early Saturday in the death of his wife six years ago, bringing an end to a trial that became the nation's latest true-crime cable TV obsession with its tales of plastic surgery and philandering, betrayal and family feuding, jailhouse snitches and a courtroom prop: a jetted bathtub. Martin MacNeill was accused of knocking out Michele MacNeill with drugs after cosmetic surgery, then leaving her to die in a tub like the one displayed in court. Prosecutors asserted that he may have held her underwater for good measure and that he did it to take up a new life with another woman...The case shocked the Mormon community of Pleasant Grove, 35 miles south of Salt Lake City, and captured national attention because the defendant was a wealthy doctor and a lawyer, a father of eight in a picture-perfect family and former bishop in his local congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

From another source: "The youngest of her eight children, 6-year-old Ada, was the first person to find her."
Mormon-church owned source: Jury convicts Martin MacNeill of drowning his wife in bathtub

What kind of monster murders their wife and then leaves it to his 6-year-old daughter to find her dead?

One who wants a good alibi.

One of his earlier Mistresses said he said he had done it earlier when he drowned his brother.

It will be very interesting to see what the sentence will be:

Per the Provo Herald (the city where the trial was):

"MacNeill will be sentenced on January 7th and could serve 15 years to life in prison on the murder charge and one to 15 years on the obstruction of justice charge when he is sentenced."
Source: Jury finds Martin MacNeill guilty of murder, obstruction of justice

Yep, no family is perfect. -- MamaB

Well, if what Dan(9698) says is so, this guy allegedly got away with one "perfect" murder and almost another!

But, hey, you're right. Just a murder or two. (No family's "perfect")

Yes, that KSL.com source -- Daughter, sister say charges confirm suspicions that doctor killed wife you linked was a good find...from that source (which is also owned by the Mormon church):

"MacNeill also had an affair with another woman for several months about two years before his wife's death, according to prosecutors. She told her psychiatrist she was having an affair with a "serial killer," an affidavit states. She said MacNeill told her he'd tried to kill his mother when he was young, but his sister called 911 and medical personnel revived her. He also said he'd killed his brother in a bathtub, told the woman he wanted to kill a daughter and offered to kill the woman's husband "to relieve her of an abusive relationship," an arrest warrant states. MacNeill told the woman he had written an article in the Journal of American Medical Association titled, "It's Over, Debbie." The article was written by a doctor promoting "mercy killing," who euthanized a patient with an overdose of a sedative pain killer but was never held accountable, according to court documents. "The defendant said he, too, had killed and discussed ways in which he could take another's life without being caught," prosecutors wrote in the charging documents filed Friday." Do you know the actual story on his brother?

Only what his previous mistress said in a TV interview

She said he told her about it in "pillow talk"

She said he helped him (the brother) out by holding his head under water for a while. I don't know what that means.

Also from that KSL.com source -- Daughter, sister say charges confirm suspicions that doctor killed wife:

"MacNeill, a former clinical director of the Utah State Developmental Center, was released from a Texas federal prison July 6 after serving a three-year sentence for fraud, forgery and identity theft."

Remember, MacNeill was a former Lds bishop...something a lot of these Mormon church sources (Deseret News, KSL.com) -- and Mormon-saturated sources (Provo Herald) aren't mentioning.

Last night there was a guy on HLN who said he had been excommunicated.

Not for this murder but for something earlier.

It happens.

Ya know, my Mormon relatives are nice.

They're great.

For some reason, tho, we just don't get all the "My Mormon neighbors are nice" and "My Mormon co-workers are nice" comments on threads like this...

Whether other people are nice doesn’t have anything to do with this murder story.

This has been "snipped" a bit, but provides some other info on Martin MacNeill...

It wasn’t until MacNeill’s release in July 2012 from a federal prison in Texas on charges of fraud that Utah prosecutors moved to file charges of murder and obstruction of justice.

(Gypsy)Willis (the mistress) also served a federal sentence for using the identity of one of MacNeill’s adopted daughters to escape a debt-heavy history. That daughter had been sent back to Ukraine, supposedly only for a summer.

For a time, MacNeill’s only family defender was his only son. Damian, a 24-year-old law student, committed suicide in January 2010, according to his sisters, who have said he was haunted by their mother’s death.

Investigators who subpoenaed MacNeill’s own medical records found he was in good health. And they discovered something else: MacNeill had been collecting veteran benefits for decades, saying in an application he had bipolar or anti-social disorders.

MacNeill’s arrest warrant contains a former girlfriend’s explosive allegation — not used at the trial — that MacNeill killed a brother and tried to kill his mother long ago. Utah investigators confirmed the brother, Rufus Roy MacNeill, was found dead in a bathtub in New Jersey. They determined MacNeill was never charged and found no indication he was ever under investigation for it. --- PAUL FOY
