I remember “party lines”, cranking the crank, and telling the operator the party’s name, number & address, back in the early 50s in WVa. She’d call back when she made the connection, after the previous users were finished.

Party lines were Gods gift to gossip ole farm wives in my area anyway LOL

I remember my 1950 phone number...Yards 7-4939, Yards refers to the fact that we lived near the Chicago Stockyards on 47th & Halsted St in Chicago.

I grew-up in Arl Hts, ‘57-’67, and when Dad worked for Allied Chemical at Merchandise Mart, we’d go out to lunch/dinner at Stockyards Inn. Best steaks in the world, then. Nice town back then.
